It looks like Pave the peacock isn’t the only one returning to Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the upcoming update to the game, at least in a manner of speaking. The mole Resetti will be making an appearance of sorts, as well.
Yesterday, Nintendo announced that the main feature of the upcoming update for New Horizons would be the holiday of Festivale which would see the return of its host, Pave. Some fans were initially a little disappointed that Pave was essentially the only thing being added with the new update, given past updates usually included several new features in addition to whatever the upcoming holiday event was.
It seems Nintendo wasn’t going to entirely let the new update come and go without any new items unrelated to a holiday. Nintendo posted to Twitter that several new types of items would be coming with the New Horizons update. American football items such as a football shaped rug and an actual football will be available when the update drops, and items to celebrate New Years in different parts of the world will be available starting February 10th. The star of the show however, the Resetti model, will be released alongside the football items immediately.
Players who joined the Animal Crossing series with New Horizons may only be tangentially familiar with who Resetti is. In New Horizons he and his brother run the rescue service, but are never seen in the flesh. Anyone not already familiar with Resetti would likely not even make the connection that those running the rescue service were returning characters. It also doesn’t help that using the rescue service is rarely ever necessary.
In older games however, Resetti had more of a role, however, it was still entirely likely that players would never encounter him. In the older games, he would appear whenever the player turned their game off without saving. When players loaded up their game the next time, Resetti would pop out of the ground and scold the player for turning the game off without saving. The more times the player did it, the angrier Resetti got.
Resetti would eventually start to mess with the player in the Gamecube version of Animal Crossing, resetting the game himself and claiming he wiped the player’s data completely before revealing he was just joking, or he’d make the player apologize for the continuous resets. On the 5th reset in some games, his brother Don would instead appear and basically play good cop to try and get the player to stop resetting.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available on Switch.
