Since their streak of success many decades ago, the Mighty Ducks has become a top-tier Hockey team. When young twelve-year-old Evan struggles to try out for the team, he comes across an unexpected legend that could give him another chance at making the cut, Coach Bombay. Evan and Coach Bombay set out on a challenging journey of teamwork and self-discovery, learning from each other and empowering a new generation of underdog hockey players.

Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm) stars as AlexEvan’s hardworking mother. Laura is also listed as an executive as co-executive producer of The Mighty Ducks: Gamechangers.  Child actor Brady Noon (Boardwalk Empire, Good Boys) portrays 12-year-old Evan, the young Hockey Player looking to prove himself. Emilio Estevez (The West Wing, Number3rs) reprises his role as Coach Bombay, the hardened Hockey Coach that lead the Mighty Ducks to victory in the 1990s. In addition to reprising his role, Emilio Estevez is also listed as an executive producer of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. The Disney Plus series also co-stars Maxwell Simkins (Kim Possible), Swayam Bhatia (Master of None), Luke Islam (Stars In The House), Kiefer O’Reilly (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Taegen Burns, (I Can Only Imagine), Bella Higginbotham (Troop Zero), and De’Jon Watts (Marvel Studios’ Black Panther)The first season will run 10 episodes long. As the stream wars rage on, dormant franchises are set to be unearthed once again, and with that comes new stories to tell as well as new ways to build subscription numbers. Netflix has remarkable success with Cobra Kai which, like The Mighty Ducks: Game Changersis set many decades after the events of the film trilogy and reprises several members of the original cast to their original roles.

Other franchises have been getting a similar announcement, with HBO reportedly developing a Harry Potter series in the works and children’s comedy series iCarly being revived for Paramount Plus. The goal to win the stream wars is to give the fans what they want, and this means going into the archives to leave no stone unturned. Perhaps, it’s truly possible to see a return of long-extinct shows that need another chance.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is set to stream exclusively on Disney Plus, beginning March 26th, 2021.
