Dark Souls Modder Recreates Halo Multiplayer Maps In-Game

In terms of gameplay, setting, characters, tone, and nearly anything else fans could think of, Dark Souls and Halo are drastically different. It’s difficult to see how these two things could ever relate to one another, but one modder has made it so. Going by the name of Inferno Plus, this modder has added in multiplayer maps from Halo into the game. These maps can be used in online play to create epic battles between large groups of players that would previously have been impossible.

The Dark Souls modding community has always been an active one, and there are several great mods to be found for the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. Most of these focus on expanding the existing features in the game, but Inferno Plus’ new mod called Dark Souls Remastest adds entirely new features, including a complete overhaul of Dark Souls‘ Battle of Stoicism gamemode and new incentives for online play.

Aside from adding these maps from the Halo franchise, Dark Souls Remastest also removes co-op restrictions, allowing for large teams of players to form. The overhaul of the Battle of Stoicism gamemode also features new ways to play online, including a 9 vs 9 Team Deathmatch mode and a capture-the-flag-esque “Capture the Lizard” mode. As if this wasn’t impressive enough, Inferno Plus also added new powerups throughout the map that will give players an edge against their opponents. These can be things such as temporary invisibility or a nice boost to the character’s defense stats.

Naturally, the current setup of Dark Souls doesn’t accommodate these types of large scale battles perfectly, so Inferno Plus had to dig deeper and make further changes. Most notably, many of the spells in the game have been reworked to fit the new gamemodes, but there were also major changes made to several weapons, spell casting implements, and even core mechanics such as backstabbing and guard break. Ultimately, it’s far too much to list here, but Inferno Plus’ video above does an excellent job of touching on all of the major changes that come with this mod.

Players that want to experience this chaos for themselves can download the mod for free at Inferno Plus’ patreon, but be warned that the mod only works with the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. Unfortunately, that means that it will be much more difficult to use for players that don’t already have that version, but it was a necessary restriction thanks to how the Remastered version works.

Dark Souls Remastest is available on PC now.
