Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the latest title to come out of the long-running and massively successful Assassin’s Creed franchise by Ubisoft. It features the story of Eivor, a Viking finding his footing in England as he gains alliances and removes enemies for the sake of the advancement of his clan.
The game was positively received by many, while a few are more critical of it. However it’s viewed, it can’t be argued that this is one beautiful game with a massive world and a decent story. There are things, however, a player can do to ruin their playthrough, thus making them believe that the game just isn’t worthwhile. Avoiding these things will help any player find more enjoyment in the game.
10 Expecting The Game To Be Brief
One of the most recurring qualms many players have with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is that it’s too long. Many find this aspect in a game unappealing now, apparently. Don’t let it overwhelm you. There are plenty of interesting characters to get to know and countless ways to affect the story. There are even multiple endings, so pay close attention to even the slightest details you come across.
This game is one of the longest games in recent memory. Don’t expect it to be finished right away. Instead, the player should take their time and enjoy the experience.
9 Playing Just To Complete The Story
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has a straightforward story that has its occasional compelling moments. With this in mind, it is easy to get absorbed into this game’s main campaign, which will make the player disregard everything else about the game.
One major reason the players should avoid this is that later regions can be reasonably difficult. For them to catch up, they’ll need to be more powerful and the other aspects of the game, such as mysteries and raids, can help with that.
8 Not Upgrading The Settlement
One of the core aspects of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s gameplay is the Raven Clan’s settlement. Once they arrive in England, the settlement will look like a home, but it won’t exactly feel like it yet – not for Vikings.
This is where raids come in. Players should take the time to occasionally raid monasteries and other camps so they can gather resources to upgrade their settlement. This will also provide more opportunities, merchants, and side quests to the player.
7 Settling For Subpar Weapons And Armor
The very starting weapons and armor in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla are very decent in their own right. They feel powerful enough to get through most of the areas in the game. However, the players should take their time to explore their other options as well.
There are a ton of awesome armor sets and incredibly powerful weapons in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that the starting ones just won’t compare at all. These will help them defeat the toughest enemies in the game more efficiently.
6 Not Visiting Hytham
Hytham is a member of the Hidden Ones and he handles the bureau located in Ravensthorpe. He is the person to turn to when it comes to Order of the Ancients business. In a way, Hytham is the character in the game who will allow the players to engage in the classic “Assassins vs Templars” gameplay.
The players should visit Hytham every once in a while, especially after they’ve gotten rid of a couple of Order members, as he will reward Eivor with an ability. He will also occasionally provide information about some of the members.
5 Not Visiting Asgard
One of the most beautiful things many people loved about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is its inclusion of Asgard. The game’s vision of Asgard, and later, Jotunheim, is very impressive and they offer more quests for the players to enjoy.
Besides that, the game’s main story, especially the ending, will make more sense if they’ve completed the Asgard arc. Other than that, it’s just fun interacting with the game’s version of the Norse Gods.
4 Not Collecting Ingots
One of the major things that will ruin a player’s playthrough of the game is disregarding equipment upgrades. They can wield and wear the best armors and weapons, but if they’re not upgraded, they can become obsolete, especially later in the game.
For this, the player must collect Ingots that are scattered all around the game’s massive world. They can purchase maps of treasures from the Cartographer in Raventhorpe to make this endeavor easier.
3 Not Paying Attention To The Conversations
In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players will spend a lot of time talking with other characters. A lot of people disregard this aspect in games. If they don’t want to ruin their playthrough of the game, conversations should never be discarded or constantly skipped.
These conversations will provide more information about the game’s lore, and will even help in the choices that are presented to the player later on. Be sure to pay attention to the conversations and playing the game will become so much more immersive.
2 Not Using Focus And Synin
Those who are playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and not using their focus ability and utilizing Eivor’s trusty little raven companion are ruining their playthroughs. These two gameplay mechanics can and should be used whenever necessary as they will allow the players to play the game way more productively.
The focus ability will allow players to discover items that may seem hidden on the screen and Synin can act as a scout who can survey an area before the players move in. Synin can also discover places of interest in the world.
1 Auto-Assigning Skill Points
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s skill tree can seem very overwhelming. The game itself even acknowledges this fact. The game offers an auto-assign feature so the players won’t have to worry about the skill tree anymore. This is something they can do, but if they want their playthrough to run smooth and have a more enjoyable time, they’d be better off skipping this option entirely.
There are a ton of abilities in the game that are undoubtedly better than others. Players will miss the chance to acquire them early, or even learn about them to begin with, if they auto-assign skill points.
