PS5 exclusive Destruction AllStars has at least a year of post-launch content planned

Destruction AllStars, the multiplayer destruction derby PS5 exclusive, will get at least a year’s worth of support from the developer.

Lucid Games and Sony xDev, the developers behind Destruction Allstars – which is one of February’s free games on PlayStation Plus – have taken part in a new interview with Eurogamer, where the studios outlined what players can expect from this action-based driving game.

The interview goes into a bit more detail about the game which we’ve not heard all too much about just yet. Sony xDev’s John McLaughlin noted that the developers have “a plan for the forthcoming year” for the live service title – though it’s not as clear cut as simply following a strict roadmap when it comes to rolling out updates.

“So we’ve got a plan,” McLaughlin told Eurogamer. “The first couple of months is basically letting people play the game, get into the game, of course we’re gonna look at the analytics and look at what people are playing. While we’ve got a plan for the forthcoming year, we’ve got loads of cool stuff coming, we do want to engage with that community, we want to listen to what they’re saying.

“It’s important for life services to be able to pivot, you know, and listen to what people are saying.”

It sounds like the studio wants to take inspiration from the likes of Fall Guys, a studio that seems to have struck a good balance when it comes to responding to player feedback whilst supplying pre-planned updates in a rhythmic cadence.

Destruction AllStars’ official page says there are 16 heroes in total, and each character will have various abilities they can use in their cars, such as spikes that can be deployed on the body of the car, frontal armor that makes it easier to crush opponents, a magnet that sucks other racers nearby, and so on.

Whether future updates will introduce more heroes, more cars, more abilities and so on is yet to be revealed. But considering the game is coming to PlayStation Plus (similarly to Fall Guys), we imagine Sony xDev and Lucid Games will want to keep that large initial player base engaged as long as possible.
