Don Cheadle Confirms Rhodey Will Show Up In ‘Falcon And The Winter Soldier’

Don Cheadle will be reprising his MCU role as James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes aka War Machine sooner than expected. Cheadle has confirmed that he will be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

While speaking to the BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, Cheadle spoke about the fun of the interconnected nature of the MCU. While speaking about his own upcoming Disney+ series Armor Wars that will feature War Machine as its main character, Cheadle said “You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show.” This is the first mention of Rhodey appearing in the upcoming series which is set to make its debut on March 19.

During the conversation, Cheadle also spoke about his excitement over the upcoming Armor Wars series. He mentioned that the series will likely touch on the death of Rhodey’s best friend, Tony Stark, who sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame. He also said he imagines that the series will continue to explore the technical upgrades Rhodey has been using to allow him to walk after becoming partially paralyzed in Captain America: Civil War. While there is no release date announced for Armor Wars at this point, Cheadle has said that the writing process will begin shortly.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the second MCU show to debut on Disney+ following WandaVision which is currently streaming. The series will find Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprising their roles as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes respectively. It will deal with the aftermath of Steve Rogers’ retirement and the succession of the new Captain America.

Given that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier seems as though it will be a military-centric story, it makes sense that Rhodey will make an appearance. It’s unclear if this was meant to be a secret cameo that Cheadle accidentally let slip or if he’ll have a substantial role in the show. Hopefully, the series will still allow the two titular stars to really step into the spotlight on their own, but this latest news does open the question of what other MCU characters might be popping up in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere on Disney+ March 19, 2021.
