Overwatch Year of the Ox Event Reveals New Ashe Tiger Huntress Skin

Fans are patiently waiting for news on Overwatch 2, but in the meantime, Blizzard is still supporting the original Overwatch game with plenty of content. The next big Overwatch event is the Lunar New Year, which is celebrating the Year of the Ox in 2021. And as usual, the Overwatch Lunar New Year event is adding new character skins that players can use to customize their hero roster.

So far, Blizzard has kept a tight lid on most of the Overwatch Year of the Ox skins, having just recently revealed one for Ashe. The Overwatch Year of the Ox Ashe skin transforms the Damage hero into a Tiger Huntress, with her companion Bob getting a much more elaborate makeover. The skin decks out Bob with tiger paint and a green robe, giving him a rather striking appearance, and setting the bar high for the other Year of the Ox skins.

The Overwatch Lunar New Year event for 2021 takes place from February 4 to February 25, and it will likely include other festivities besides just new skins. Exact details have yet to be revealed by Blizzard, but with the event kicking off on February 4, details should come within the next day. Previous iterations of the event have focused on Capture the Flag game modes, so it’s a safe bet that this year’s event will do so as well.

The Overwatch Lunar New Year event should keep fans of the hero shooter plenty busy throughout the month of February, but there are other reasons for fans to be excited this month. On February 19 and 20, Blizzard will be hosting a virtual version of its BlizzCon celebration. And even though it’s virtual, BlizzCon 2021 is expected to feature a slew of announcements for the company’s biggest games, Overwatch included.

More specifically, fans expect Overwatch 2 to be featured at BlizzCon 2021, though what exactly will be announced about the game remains to be seen. Previously, rumors suggested that Overwatch 2 would get a beta start date announcement at BlizzCon, but more recent rumors suggest otherwise. The latest round of gossip points to Overwatch 2 development taking a bit longer than expected, with the game not coming until later in the year instead of the first half of 2021 as some fans predicted.

A prominent Overwatch leaker has suggested that Blizzard may reveal some new Overwatch 2 heroes at BlizzCon, but that may be the extent of what fans can expect from the show. Regardless, Overwatch enthusiasts will have to tune in to find out for sure.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
