For those currently playing on PlayStation 5, there is a new software update to download and install. The main PlayStation website outlines the details of update 20.02-02.50.00 improving the new console experience.
Though Sony’s flagship device came out a few months ago, it has been receiving consistent patches. Due to how complex consoles are, gamers can expect launch models to have some level of bugs or glitches. Fortunately, the team behind PlayStation 5 is releasing fixes for various issues for those who managed to beat scalpers.
From the patch notes, it looks like the list is small but complete with some beneficial changes. The first point in the update for PlayStation 5 is how it improves overall system performance. While vague, these behind-the-scene fixes assure that the console continues to run smoothly. Another part of the patch includes how players can interact with video clips in the media gallery. After booting up Share Factory Studio, content creators can now select and edit the clips from their console.
The third and final fix is going to be significant for those still playing PlayStation 4 games on PS5. Thanks to backwards compatibility, players can still enjoy games from the previous generation on the new console. However, an occasional problem is how the PS4 version of the game still downloads when inputting the disc. For those that are switching between physical copies of games, this can be a frustrating issue. With this update, the old generation version of the game will no longer download unexpectedly when inserting the disc.
It is good to see that the PlayStation team is taking feedback about PS5 and continuing to update the performance. On top of stability improvements, players are getting a fix for an annoying bug and another way to engage with their device. With only a few next gen games out currently, many gamers are likely still playing PlayStation 4 games. Fans can breath a sigh of relief knowing that putting in an old disc will not automatically install the game again. Plus, content creators can more easily make great videos using the new Share Factory Studio system.
There is a chance that there will be some disappointment among the gaming community. Even with PlayStation 5 being the next version, it came out missing features from the previous generation console. Themes and Folders are still not available on the device and adding in external storage still faces certain limits. Players may find it strange that the ability to edit videos came in an earlier patch than system folders. Nevertheless, the PlayStation 5 team continues to make changes buffing up the performance of the console to the benefit of players.
