Spider-Man: Miles Morales had plenty to live up to, as Insomniac’s first Spider-Man game delivered an excellent take on Peter Parker while also being a blast to play. Fortunately, Insomniac delivered once again with the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and the game’s sales reflect its popularity clearly.
Aside from bringing in several positive reviews, Spider-Man: Miles Morales managed to sell a staggering 4.1 million copies in 2020 alone – a number made even more spectacular by the fact that the game launched in the middle of November. While this pales in comparison to the 3.3 million copies of the original Spider-Man that were sold in just three days, 4.1 million is an impressive sales number, nonetheless. Further, Spider-Man: Miles Morales seems like it will have legs, continuing to sell well for some time to come.
With Spider-Man: Miles Morales being a cross-generational title, it makes sense that many would wait to purchase the young webslinger’s solo outing until they can get a PlayStation 5. With PS5s continuing to sell out as soon as they become available, though, several hopeful adopters have yet to get a system of their own to play on. As such, several potential buyers of Spider-Man: Miles Morales have not yet purchased the game either, meaning that the spinoff will likely continue to sell well for some time to come.
Still, the current sales for the game are wildly impressive, and while they are not breaking records like Marvel’s Spider-Man did when it launched, the numbers prove that fans are interested in where the series will go next. With Spider-Man: Miles Morales adding depth to the gameplay through its hero’s Venom powers, trimming the fat from the open world, and telling a bold new story focused on Peter Parker’s protege, it is easy to see why the game has proven to be a hit with fans.
As for when players can expect to see Miles Morales and his mentor in action again, fans should prepare for a decently long wait. According to Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal, dialogue has not yet been recorded for the sequel. Usually a sign that a game is early in development, Spider-Man: Miles Morales fans will have to be patient, as Insomniac will likely have nothing to say about the game anytime soon. When it comes, though, having the two Spider-Men clashing with villains like Venom seems like a recipe for yet another sales success.
That said, with DLC for Spider-Man: Miles Morales neither confirmed nor denied, there is still hope to see the heroes again soon. For now, though, fans will just have to continue theorizing and replaying the two high-selling Spider-Man games.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available for PS4 and PS5.
