The recent showcase for Resident Evil Village demonstrated a variety of new gameplay features and graphical advancements that left fans of the franchise in a frenzy, hotly anticipating the release. While many of the new additions to this sequel were praised, by far the most discussed element of the game was the reveal of the new towering vampiric antagonist Lady Dimitrescu.
After this new character proved to connect with the fanbase, with the main topic of discussion being her tremendous height, Capcom joined in on the fun and revealed details regarding exactly just how tall Lady Dimitrescu is. While the deadly new Resident Evil Village baddie is definitely measuring quite high, there are other fellow video game characters throughout history whose own height could be enough to make Lady Dimitrescu blush.
The now iconic series protagonist and flagship mascot for the Xbox brand, Master Chief stands tall both in terms of measurement and fueling the continued popularity of the Halo series. The Chief’s grand stature is attributed largely to his sturdy battle armor, endowing him with both the abilities and appearance to fit the definition of being a big, mean fighting machine.
Whether on the forefront of the battlefield or simply placed alongside other Halo protagonists for the sake of comparison, the sheer size of Master Chief commands a room and is always sure to turn heads. Regardless of if Master Chief is being represented in a game or with a real life cosplay, the character is designed to be larger than life.
It’s right there in the name, the Big Daddy is everything its title lives up to, with every appearance a stunning spectacle largely due to its hulking size. The heavy mass of a Big Daddy can be felt with its every earth shaking step, as the player instinctively dashes out of harm’s ways to avoid being crushed.
The Big Daddy is so huge in fact, it’s truly a wonder how the City of Rapture is able to contain these monstrous behemoths without the walls practically bursting at the seams. It would be advised to keep a watchful eye out for these formidable foes but the reality of the matter is they are quite hard to miss.
Stalking Resident Evil fans long before Lady Dimitrescu ever creeped onto the scene, Nemesis is a hulking behemoth that endlessly pursued players through the dark streets of Raccoon City. By the third mainline entry, gamers had become accustomed to the usual undead creeping around corners, so to reinvigorate that true feeling of fear, the developers had to create an imposing new adversary.
Whether gamers are experiencing Resident Evil 3 by playing the PS1 original or the recent remake, Nemesis is an intimidating presence whenever he appears onscreen, for the simple reason that he is so large he practically takes up the entire screen. To this day, Nemesis remains one of the series ‘most unforgettable opponents and any threats that followed had a tall act to follow.
One of the primary villains in Nintendo’s long running sci-fi adventure series Metroid, Ridley poses a serious physical threat to Samus Aran mostly due to how big he is. Even with her trademark Varia suit, Samus is still so miniscule during any confrontation with this tremendous alien adversary.
To put things in perspective, even if a certain Halo protagonist mentioned earlier were to join in on the fray against this ghastly foe, Ridley stands nearly twice the height of two Master Chiefs combined. Many of the members within the Metroid rogues gallery are all much larger than Samus, with Ridley being a notable standout for having a devilish appearance to match his massive scale.
Literally raising the bar up from all the prior entries, many of the largest colossi in Shadow of the Colossus reach the 70 foot tall range at minimum, and only increase from there. The very first colossi that the player encounters named Valus, begins the upward trend of sky high opponents with a height ranging near 70 feet, but flash forward to later battles in the game with Gaius being even taller at 97 feet and the final colossi Malus making all its predecessors appear like specks by comparison with a staggering height of 195 feet.
Asking gamers to stand toe to toe with any of these gargantuan bosses poses a considerable challenge, since a single toe on any one of these titans alone could flatten the player effortlessly. Nevertheless, the unbelievable size of each and every one of these ancient beasts remains an impressive testament in creating gigantic, lifelike opponents for the player to contend with in video games.
