Epic Games makes this week’s free games available to claim, adding a surprise second title to its offerings despite not adver

Ever since the Epic Games Store launched for customers back in December 2018, the marketplace has been offering free titles to entice new faces to the store. From Grand Theft Auto 5 and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 to Watch Dogs 2 and Alien Isolation, the store has made some huge games available over the last two years, and this week is no different.

Cycling out last week’s offering of Dandara, the Epic Games Store has added two new titles to its free weekly grabs while updating what players can expect next week. As for what’s available right now, players with an Epic Games Store account can get their hands on For the King and Metro: Last Light Redux until February 11, with both games being replaced by Halcyon 6 next week.

The biggest of the trio is Metro: Last Light Reduxwhich is the remastered offering of 4A Games’ second Metro title. It follows on from its 2010 predecessor Metro 2033, with players assuming the role of Artyom, a survivor living in a post-apocalyptic society assembled in connecting Russian subway tunnels. The story of 4A’s second story follows Artyom’s continued quest to discover more about the mysterious Dark Ones, adding larger levels, more depth, and refining the gameplay of the prior title to make for a much more proficient survival horror experience.

For the King, on the other hand, is a strategic RPG that aims to merge roguelike and tabletop elements to craft a unique and challenging adventure. It can be played in single-player or both online and local co-op, with players able to venture out on an adventure alone or with a friend. Quests, events, and the game’s map are all procedurally generated within For the King, and the Epic Games version will include all its various expansions, meaning players will have hours of gameplay to experience.

As for next week’s title, Halcyon 6 is a retro space strategy-RPG, with players having to manage a space ship and its crew. Base building is a big part of the game, as is hiring an expansive crew and using them to fight in tactical combat. The title will also seemingly have a strong story, following a band of humans rebuilding the Halcyon 6 spaceship to weaponize it against a dangerous alien species looking to attack earth. It will be available to download as of February 11, with the game remaining free on the storefront until February 18, at which time it will be replaced by another unannounced free title.
