With  Gears 5 being one of the best shooters to date, it makes sense to talk about the online game modes and what they offer. Each game mode has something to offer players which allows the game the try new things.

10 Arcade Quickplay

This mode is new to the franchise and is a great way for players to jump into the fight early on. What makes it new is that it borrows elements from “hero” shooters like Overwatch. Each character the player picks has unique abilities catered to that character.

These abilities can be upgraded as well as weapons, after every match players earn currency which they can use to upgrade the character as they see fit. The Arcade mode acts as a bridge for people who have never tried its online. This helps get players online easier. This mode like the rest of the quick play section can be played with up to four players.

9 Classic Quickplay

Unlike its Arcade counterpart, it’s the fastest way to get into a game. This which also supports four players is a mode that makes it equal across the board. Everyone has the same weapons and unlike Arcade no one has power up or abilities.

It’s just there for an easy game mode to get into or playing in the background.  The good thing about Classic Quickplay is that helps player practice and get better without hurting their rank because it does not impact that.

8 C0-op A.I

On top of having a good single-player and multiplayer experience, Gears 5 also does a good job with the online co-op section as well. This mode pits players against the games A.I. Players can take up to 3 friends and try to survive the game modes with bots.

If the game gets a little too easy or too hard, players have the option of turning up or down the difficulty. Plus with each difficulty comes more or less XP. Overall this mode is a good way to grind and level up. Unlike Classic Quickplay, this is more engaging

7 King Of The Hill

This is a ranked playlist, so when playing this, players will be more aggressive because it matters towards the ranking system. King of the Hill is a 4v4 game mode, which like most ranked modes puts players with similar ranks together. Playing this mode can be fun.

A zone is generated somewhere on the map and players have to hold that zone for a specific time period. Then it changes. The game gives ten seconds for players to get ready for the next ring. Home to some pretty good maps, which can lead to some competitive fighting.

6 Team Deathmatch

Team Deathmatch is universal across almost all games of its ilk, in Gears 5  it’s not much different. Player team up with 4 other teammates to take down the enemy team.  Being one of the most popular shooters in 2019, and one of the best shooters of the year players are still populating this mode.

Team Deathmatch in Gears 5 is pretty self-explanatory, kill the other team to reach the score limit. However in the series when a player goes down they don’t die, they can still move it’s up to another player to get them up.

5 Guardian

In this mode, both teams will have a team leader, and players will know who they are because they are plated in gold. The point of this mode is to kill the opposing team leaders to win the round. When killing a nonleader, the match keeps on going but it counts towards a kill.

Players usually protect the leader and send out one or two teammates of the 4 to hunt for the enemy leader. This mode is much slower than most of them because oftentimes the leader can be hiding and letting their team do the work.

4 Escalation

Escalation is a lot like King of the Hill, with using a ring to make players run from one side to the other side of the map. However, there’s a spin. In this mode, both teams of 5 must reach 250 points. Each player is given 5 lives at the start and will get more every round.

But at halftime, all the lives are reset to 5 again. The team that loses all 5 lives from all 5 players loses the game. All while new weapon types drop all around the map. This is one of the quicker modes because everyone wants to get into the ring first.

3 Execution

This 5v5 mode is for the real fanatics are the series. In order to get a kill score players must use execution. So ranged attacks and ranged weapons won’t do as much damage. The reason being is that the game wants players to be in close quarters with each other.

The whole point of this mode is to get executions. But players can still get kills with close-range weapons like ganshers shotgun. This mode also differs from the other as players have one life per round.  On top of that when a player is bleeding out, they will not die but rather get up again. On top of that one-shot kill weapons are popular since they do most of the work.

2 Escape Mode

The Escape mode is a new game mode to the series as well. Unlike most game modes mentioned, it’s a player versus environment type of mode. In this mode, players can team up with 2 other players and try to escape a poisonous cloud from a hive.

The escape mode has a story that has team Scorpio detonating a bomb of a hive.  When it explodes it releases a gas that can kill, forcing the players to try to escape the map. While this happening enemies will come after the squad making the team of 3 trying to strategize to escape

1 Horde Mode

Horde mode is much like Escape in terms of how it plays. In Gears 5 it’s different now. Now players can pick characters with abilities to help them fight. This allows the players to have a better chance against the upcoming enemies.

In the Horde mode, players can play with up to 2 more players to help them take against the waves of enemies. Each wave gets harder and harder, and to make things interesting, the game throws a mixed bag of weapons at players. The whole goal is to survive the 50 rounds the game gives the players.
