How many MMORPGs make it to their 20th anniversary? The compelling mechanics and nostalgia of Old School RuneScape capture new and only players alike. It’s sequel, RuneScape 3, even manages to maintain some serious popularity.
Old School RuneScape continues to break its concurrent player records and there’s never been a better time to pick up the game. One of the toughest parts of the game for old and new players alike is efficiently leveling up skills, especially in Crafting. There are many potential routes to take but with a little knowledge going in it becomes far easier.
10 Free-To-Play: The Best Quests
Doing quests is almost always faster than grinding so players should seek them out as quickly as possible. The following quests offer Crafting experience for free-to-play players.
- Sheep Shearer – Offers 150 exp
- Goblin Diplomacy – Offers 200 exp
- Misthalin Mystery – Offers 600 exp
Unfortunately, these won’t get players very far, but they are still worth it for new players to check out especially. They give free-to-play players a good boost to get started with.
9 Members Only: The Best Quests
Shelling out a bit of real-life cash to become a member is absolutely worth it when it comes to having quests to level up crafting with. There are so many we won’t do anything else but show off the list.
- Tower of Life – Offers 500 exp
- In Search of the Myreque – Offers 600 exp
- Dwarf Cannon – Offers 750 exp
- The Golem – Offers 1,000 exp
- Making History – Offers 1,000 exp

- Enakhra’s Lament – Offers 7,000 exp
- Elemental Workshop II – Offers 7,500
- The Hand in the Sand – Offers 9,000 exp
The amount of experience on offer here can save players an astronomical amount of time from a slow grind. It’s worth trying to do all of these quests possible if they are available for players.
8 Use Energy Potions
Gamers and energy drinks go hand in hand and the same goes for Old School RuneScape. Well, sort of. In this case, it’s Energy Potions players use to get moving faster and craft more items.
On average, players can make about 750 items an hour at a furnace. However, with the Energy Potion, that number can be boosted up all the way to 1000 per hour for efficient players. It’s worth having some of these on hand!
7 Level Up With Armor
Players can strictly grind up from Level 1 all the way to Level 99. All they need to know is what items offer the most efficiency in terms of how much experience can be gained an hour vs how expensive the items cost. This method in the end will end up with a net loss of 72,652,121 gold, so players should make sure they save up before getting started.
- Level 1 – 7: Leather Gloves
- Level 7 – 9: Leather Boots
- Level 9 – 11: Leather Cowls
- Level 11 – 14: Leather Vambraces
- Level 14 – 18: Leather Bodies
- Level 18 – 28: Leather Chaps
- Level 28 – 99: Hardleather Bodies
6 Level Up With Pottery
Players can also choose to level up fully by crafting pottery. It’s especially worth taking on the tasks in the Falador Hard Diary so that the bank is added to the Crafting Guild. This gives players easy access to the clay they need as well as a necessary water source.
- Level 1 – 7: Empty Pots
- Level 7 – 8: Pie Dishes
- Level 8 – 99: Bowls
The best part of using this leveling method is the monotony. In all seriousness, getting into the groove of making bowls can result in serious efficiency. At the end of the day, players gotta grind out that 13,034,431 experience to get to Level 99 somehow, right?
5 Level Up With Gold Jewelry
One of the best reasons to level up with this method is that it results in a direct profit for players. Doing this perfectly will net 7,434,076 gold which is nothing to sneeze at. Here is the most efficient way to go about using this method.
- Level 5 – 6: Gold Rings
- Level 6 – 8: Gold Necklaces
- Level 8 – 20: Gold Amulets
- Level 20 – 22: Sapphire Rings
- Level 22 – 24: Sapphire Necklaces
- Level 24 – 31: Sapphire Amulets
- Level 31 – 40: Emerald Amulets
- Level 40 – 43: Ruby Necklaces
- Level 43 – 50: Diamond Rings
- Level 50 – 56: Ruby Amulets
- Level 56 – 70: Diamond Necklaces
- Level 70 – 99: Diamond Amulets
While it does make a great profit, players will likely end up needing to buy a lot of supplies from the Grand Exhange. These include 131,506 gold bars, 320 emeralds, 175 sapphires, 1,148 rubies, and a whopping 129719 diamonds. If players want to keep things simpler, they should use another method.
4 Level Up With Silver Jewelry
The best way to make leveling up with this method more viable is to use silver ore instead of silver bars when crafting the jewelry. This results in a higher profit for players. If players run between their crafting space and the Edgeville Bank with a holy mold and twenty-seven silver ores, this method is even faster than using an Energy Potion as well.
The most efficient item creation method for leveling up with silver jewelry is as follows.
- Level 16 – 23: Unstrung Symbols
- Level 23 – 99: Tiara
Unfortunately, even with the method to make more profits, there is a net loss when buying the crafting materials for this method.
3 Level Up With Unpowered Orbs
Once players reach Level 46, they unlock the ability to do glassblowing. Each Unpowered Orb a player creates nets them a little over 52 experience. While this method is slower than most other methods, it is by far the cheapest way to level up the skill. Players that want to keep a tight budget should choose this method to level up from Level 46 to Level 99.
2 Level Up With Battlestaves
For players also interested in leveling up their Magic skill, this might be the perfect crafting method. Players have to be at level 54 before they gain the ability to start this method, but it can be used to level up to Level 99 and even make a profit if players are willing to charge the Unpowered Orbs themselves.
- Water Battlestaff – Offers 100 exp per staff
- Earth Battlestaff – Offers 112.5 exp per staff
- Fire Battlestaff – Offers 125 exp per staff
- Air Battlestaff – Offers 137.5 exp per staff
1 Level Up With Gems
Players can choose to level up with gems but be warned: it is by far the most expensive way to train levels. it ends in a net loss of a mind-blowing 89,029,889 gold to accomplish. Still, if players want to take this on and have gold to burn, here is the most efficient method.
- Level 20 – 27: Sapphires
- Level 27 – 34: Emeralds
- Level 34 – 43: Rubies
- Level 43 – 99: Diamonds
Just to make this clear we do not recommend using this method normally. This is basically only a good method for players who want to show off they are the highest roller in all of Old School RuneScape while leveling Crafting.
