Steam Game Festival 2021 Lets Players Try PC Games for Free

As has become custom for the storefront, yesterday marked the first day in a new Steam Game festival, with players able to learn more about the slate of upcoming PC titles meant to be hitting the marketplace. Previous Steam festivals have seen a number of games displayed or showcased through demos, including the System Shock remake, Observer: System Redux, and Ghost Runner.

This month’s take on the festival will offer several upcoming games the same treatment and is running from right now until February 9. The event looks to have a mix of different gaming showcases, including the aforementioned range of playable demos, streams based on future titles, and a list of scheduled virtual events covering each release.

There are several games playable during the week-long celebration, with the titles ranging from a PVP frisbee game to an action-packed Japanese dating sim. The biggest highlights are likely SkateBIRDwhich got a starring spot in Steam’s Summer Game Festival last year, Gal Gun Returns, Loop Hero, Windjammers 2, Drive Buy, and Undying.

Little Nightmares 2 will also be getting a big focus during the showcase, with the game set to release in exactly a week’s time. It follows the same style of gameplay present in the original title, except this time players take on the role of Mono: a young boy stranded in a large and unforgiving world filled with monsters. Teaming up with previous Little Nightmares protagonist Six, the pair must venture across this realm of sinister entities and unnerving creatures in a bid to survive.

Another game getting focus during the event is Shachibato! President, It’s Time for Battle! Maju Wars, which is a brand new strategy title focused on the anime Shachibato. Players take on the role of a president of an adventuring company, where they must recruit and send off warriors to conquer dungeons and face enemies. There’s a demo for the game available during the festival, so fans of the anime can try out the strategy RPG.

Alongside the range of playable demos, the festival also has various live streams and events to follow that will talk more about the selection of games on show. It’s already shaping up to be a great showcase of some new gems coming to the platform, shining a light on a wide array of indie titles that will be cropping up over the next few months. Rumors seem to hint that Steam could be leading into a Lunar New Year Sale in the days after the festival, with the event said to be launching on February 11.

The Steam Game Festival will run between February 3 and February 9.
