Apex Legends Players Call Out Major Issue That ‘Ruins’ the Golden Longbow Sniper

Apex Legends Season 8 has been out for less than a week but players are already discovering the new meta that came with the tweaks and changes included in the Season 8 update. Along with gameplay tweaks and character changes, the Apex Legends Season 8 patch notes detailed the new fully-kitted weapons for Season 8.

The fully-kitted weapons in each season are meant to offer a big advantage to players who grab them, as they come fully equipped with all the best attachments. However, one Apex Legends content creator going by the name Zeus has called out the golden Longbow’s 4x-10x sniper scope, claiming it ruins the fully-kitted sniper.

When one thinks of a sniper, a long-range weapon with powerful shots and a slower rate of fire probably comes to mind first. While Apex Legends‘ Longbow fits that description fairly well, the Longbow boasts a decently fast rate of fire, with slightly less power behind each shot compared to snipers like the Sentinel or Triple Take. As such, players usually don’t use the Longbow solely as a sniper rifle, instead opting to use it as a powerful semi-auto rifle. This is where the problem with the golden Longbow in Season 8 comes in.

Fully-kitted weapons cannot have their pre-equipped weapon attachments switched out, meaning the golden Longbow is locked into having a 4x-10x scope attached to it. As such, if players want to get close to their opponents in a fight with a golden Longbow, the gun is extremely hard to be accurate with. The Longbow itself places well in Apex Legends weapon tier lists, usually hovering around the mid-to-high tiers, but it’s hard to disagree that the 4x-10x scope limits the Longbows inherent capabilities in the Apex Legends meta. While the 4x-10x digital threat scope does have the added appeal of highlighting enemies when aiming down the scope, it’s debatable whether or not the trade-off of limiting the Longbows potential is worth it.

It seems that there are plenty of Apex Legends players that agree with Zeus’ take on Season 8’s golden Longbow, agreeing that the 4x-10x digital threat should simply be switched with a scope with less zoom. However, the appeal of a golden weapon is that every attachment is gold, including the gold magazines that auto-reload when holstered. Switching the gold 4x-10x digital threat for a lesser tier scope would go against that general rule. Still, there are also players who don’t see the issue and simply argue that players need to use the golden Longbow in the situations it’s specifically kitted for, being long-range skirmishes.

A big problem that arises with this new golden Longbow has to do with the new King’s Canyon map in Season 8. King’s Canyon has plenty of open space to make use of snipers, but more often than not firefights take place in close-to-mid-range combat. However, the golden Longbow could absolutely see more success when Apex Legends‘ Olympus map is added back to the rotation in a few days. For now, it seems that players who don’t like the golden Longbow’s kit will simply have to apply it properly or pass it up entirely.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will release for the Switch on March 9.
