Borderlands 3 fans have been patiently waiting for some official news on the game’s next DLC, as only the first half of Season Pass 2 has been released so far. Fortunately, curious Borderlands 3 players will be getting an update soon, as the next DLC has officially been teased.
Borderlands 3’s previous expansion, the Designer’s Cut, added different kinds of content to the game. Skill trees for each Vault Hunter saw move sets expanded, while some unique skins showed multiverse versions of the characters. An Arms Race game mode was also added, introducing a new type of Borderlands gameplay and making the Designer’s Cut different from the other expansions. As such, players can expect the Director’s Cut to be different too, and Gearbox may have provided some hints as to how it will play.
In an official post from the Borderlands 3 Twitter account, it was confirmed that the Director’s Cut DLC will be getting a reveal on February 10 at 12 PM ET. The reveal will be live-streamed and debuted as part of The Borderlands Show’s next episode, with Greg Miller hosting the event as usual. While players can expect a Director’s Cut release date announcement, gameplay of the DLC will likely be shown as well — and the brief clip included in the post gives a major hint as to what it will be focused on.
When Borderlands 3 first released, players found themselves exploring every nook and cranny on each map. As such, all but one map was cleared, with Ascension Bluff’s final location being blocked off by a unique looking locked door. No matter what players tried, the door could not be opened. When Borderlands 3 fans glitched behind the door, they found what looked to be a boss arena, similar to that of Terramorphus and other Borderlands 2 Raid bosses.
The DLC teaser shows that same door, with the only difference being a bright blue door on its lock — confirming that players will be exploring the area in the Director’s Cut expansion. If past theories are correct, players will be doing battle with a huge varkid similar to Vermivorous the Invincible, with the evolving raid boss being one of the best sources for rare loot in Borderlands 2. With the DLC possibly adding several areas like this one, players could be seeing new value added to the game’s base content. A solid explanation for the Director’s Cut name, old school Borderlands players could have a big reason to be excited.
With more traditional Raid bosses being something that Borderlands 3 fans have wanted for some time, the possibility of the tough-but-farmable fights making a comeback could revitalize the game’s community. While nothing is confirmed, players will finally have their answers on the Director’s Cut DLC and the locked door next week.
Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
