Fans of PvP multiplayer in Borderlands 3 can get ready for a new event type, Gear Rush. Developers Gearbox Software reveal an update to Borderlands 3 which adds a tweak to Arms Race through a hotfix.
As the most recent addition to the Borderlands series, the game introduces some modern PvP modes. One available to players is Arms Race, which is a Battle Royale style multiplayer experience. A mainstay of the genre, those enjoying this mode drop into the map without any gear or abilities and must collect loot to survive. From the post by Gearbox Software, it sounds like Gear Rush is going to take the entire mode up a notch.
Since the mode is coming via a hotfix, players will need to first download the patch to access it. If just booting up Borderlands 3, make sure to wait on the menu until seeing the “Hotfixes Applied” message. Since Gear Rush is a mini-event, the changes are subtle but consequential to strategy in Arms Race. One of the primary differences involves farming better quality loot. During the match Rare Chests are more likely to appear, providing better quality items.
However, players will want to also want to head towards the major points of interest on the map. Throughout these areas of the Stormblind Complex, competitors can find DAHL chests to help buff up their kits. But in Gear Rush, these bundles have a higher chance of dropping Arms Race-exclusive gear. The thing is, fans will have to act fast because the Murdercane now shrinks at a faster rate. From the post it looks like this mini-event will be ending on February 11, so make sure to hop in soon.
For those playing multiplayer in Borderlands 3 this update sounds like a great way to spice up Arms Race. Now that the game has substantial next generation changes, some gamers can experience it in a whole new way. Since Battle Royale type modes typically rely on consistent map design, any gameplay updates can be a breath of fresh air. The better chance at rare loot and faster Murdercane should encourage a more chaotic and action-packed combat.
Though, with Gearbox Software recently being acquired by Embracer Group, updates like Gear Rush may be more common. Despite the team still working on the looter-shooter, mini-events like these could be a sign of development winding down. While fun for the short time it is available, the Arms Race update does not really add anything substantial. Nevertheless, fans of Borderlands 3 should get a kick out of Gear Rush while it is running.
Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
