With Season 12 ending in a few days, Destiny 2 has finally unveiled new information surrounding its upcoming season, Season of the Chosen. As with every new season in Destiny 2, Season of the Chosen brings with it some changes and updates that will add new loot to chase. Alongside new loot, Bungie is also taking a look at some old and underused exotic armor pieces.
The Cult of Aeon exotic armor pieces are a series of exotic gauntlets: Aeon Swift, Aeon Soul, and Aeon Safe for Hunter, Warlock, and Titan classes respectfully. These exotics have always been unique in the sense that they are the only exotics that work off each other for maximum value, requiring every fireteam member to equip their respective Aeon Cult exotic. This unique attribute is unfortunately the reason why these exotics are underused.
Before Destiny 2‘s Season of the Chosen, activating the exotic perks requires Hunters to Dodge, Warlocks to throw Grenades, and Titans to Melee enemies. Doing these actions activates the shared exotic perk which grants Dodge energy to Hunters, Grenade energy to Warlocks, and Melee energy to Titans. Fireteam members not wearing a Cult of Aeon exotic will receive a fraction of the shared energy instead.
Per the “This Week at Bungie” update released today, Guardians were informed of some changes to the Cult of Aeon exotics. Bungie notes that it wanted to create role-based mechanics that reward the player as well as the other members of the fireteam, while incentivizing each player to take a different role. These changes may make the Cult of Aeon exotics contenders for Nightfall: The Ordeal loadouts.
The Destiny 2 Aeon Cult exotics will be receiving their own unique mod socket and Aeon Cult Mods to equip. These new mods and mod socket will all be unlocked and available to utilize as players acquire each of the Aeon Cult exotics. Similar to the Deep Stone Crypt raid mods, each Aeon Cult Mod focuses on a separate role in the fireteam, giving bonuses based on the role. The Aeon Cult Mods are as follows:
- Rapid Precision hits with a weapon, temporarily increases player reload speed and weapon swap speed.
- When players stun a Champion, or defeat a boss/miniboss, their nearby fireteam members gain a burst of grenade and melee energy. Aeon Cult allies who do not have the Sect of Force role equipped, also gain a burst of Super energy.
- Successive precision weapon takedowns have a chance to drop an Orb of Power for allies.
- When players use a finisher on an Elite, they generate Special ammo for their fireteam; when players use a finisher on a boss/miniboss, they generate Heavy ammo for their fireteam. Nearby Aeon Cult allies who do not have the Sect of Insight role equipped, also gain a bonus to weapon damage for a short time.
- Gain class ability energy as allies die. Gain full class ability energy when players resurrect an ally.
- When players cast their Super, nearby allies gain an instant burst of healing. Aeon Cult allies who do not have the Sect of Vigor role equipped, also gain an overshield.
The Aeon Cult exotic mods can be used on any class or subclass and hold a lot of synergy. Destiny 2 fireteams looking to join the Cult of Aeon certainly have some changes to look forward to with this new take on these old Destiny exotics.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
