While the Battlefield franchise has often been compared to Call of Duty, especially in recent years, it has some defining characteristics that help it stand apart from other first-person shooter games. One of these is its focus on destruction, with many Battlefield games allowing players to completely destroy some of the buildings in its multiplayer maps. It seems that the upcoming Battlefield 6 will be taking the franchise’s focus on destructibility to the next level, if an industry insider is to be believed.
Tom Henderson, who is mainly known for leaking Call of Duty news, has posted an image on Twitter that teases a major upgrade for destructible environments in Battlefield 6. The image shows skyscrapers standing before the game, and then shows them destroyed in rubble after the game, with a “sad sniper” standing in the middle of the wreckage. This seems to be a hint that Battlefield 6 will allow players to destroy entire cities, as opposed to just some of the buildings.
Almost nothing official has been announced when it comes to Battlefield 6 so far, though, so fans should still take this information with a grain of salt. All that’s been confirmed is that the Battlefield 6 reveal will take place this spring, with the game itself to launch this coming holiday season.
If Battlefield 6 truly has this level of destructibility, though, it will be interesting to see if it will be in all versions of the game or only the next-gen releases. This seems like a feature that could only be pulled off on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, so there’s a chance that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be less impressive. This potential discrepancy has been teased in the past, with previous leaks claiming Battlefield 6 will have a higher player count on next-gen when compared to the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Again, though, nothing official has been announced so far. Fans know that Battlefield 6 exists, it will be revealed within the next few months, and it will launch at some point this coming holiday season. Any other information about the game is just rumors and leaks, though they have come from fairly reliable sources. Once the Battlefield 6 reveal does take place, it will be interesting to see which leaks were real and which ones were complete fabrications.
Besides having fully destructible cities, another Battlefield 6 rumor says the game will take place during World War 3. The Battlefield 6 World War 3 setting would bring the franchise back to modern times after the recent historical entries, so fans should stay tuned to see if the switch pays off.
Battlefield 6 is in development for unspecified platforms.
