The recent reveal for Evil Dead: The Game has not only generated a ton of hype for fans of the iconic horror franchise, but is additionally grabbing eyes as a promising standout multiplayer title on the horizon in 2021. Aside from quickly finding itself placed among the ranks of the most anticipated games of the year based on these genre and gameplay classifications, it is most notably creating buzz due to several actors from the franchise’s history making a comeback to reprise their roles in the upcoming game.
The return of so many familiar faces from the series history offers compelling opportunities for Evil Dead game and movie tie-ins, but just having these beloved characters back in unison is exciting enough. Whether or not the developer announces even more comebacks leading up to release, the roster as it stands is highly impressive.
Of course, there cannot be a proper Evil Dead reunion without Bruce Campbell as the longtime series protagonist Ash Williams. The Evil Dead announcement trailer showed off a stunning character model of Mr. Campbell, demonstrating the next generation capabilities to render more realistic in-game avatars based on real people than ever before.
If Evil Dead: The Game were only able to nab Bruce Campbell to come back and take another crack at that pesky Necronomicon, it is hard to imagine if the hype would be diminished one iota. Since the very first film released back in 1981, Bruce Campbell has become the face of the franchise, so his inclusion in a game that seems so intent to celebrate the Evil Dead franchise only feels appropriate. Armed with a chainsaw and trusty boomstick, Ash Williams has all the right stuff to be at home in any action based game, so it would not be a huge shocker if he ended up becoming a fan favorite in online matches when the title becomes available.
Plucked straight from the hit series Ash vs Evil Dead, Raymond portrays a character named Pablo Bolivar, serving as the aforementioned Ash Williams’ trusty sidekick throughout the show. The relationship between the two is a great demonstration of bromance and witty banter, with Pablo looking up to Ash as something of an inspiration, even referring to him as El Jefe.
A promising concept for Evil Dead: The Game is how it can inject humor into a horror-based game by taking advantage of how each of these individual characters interact with each other. The banter between characters in both the movies and TV show can be a fun opportunity for some snappy dialogue that is also specific to which characters are being used, a feature that can only help elevate a multiplayer game focusing on both co-op and PvP.
After the actress recently jumped onto Twitter to confirm her involvement with the game, Dana DeLorenzo returning as Kelly Maxwell is the cherry on the cake of all these announcements. Kelly Maxwell has a compelling backstory and character arc in the show, material which can be drawn from should the game dive into narrative specific DLC in the future.
Furthermore, DeLorenzo’s return not only means a comeback for Kelly Maxwell but could additionally open doors for the actress to inhabit another character she portrays on the show, Sorceress Kaya. These two prominent female characters both have specific skillsets and personalities that can be brought to the game and offer more options that appeal to different playstyles enjoyed by multiplayer gamers.
Evil Dead: The Game releases on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
