Hollow Knight: Silksong is the second game in the Hollow Knight series and also the second game by developer Team Cherry. This humble studio created something truly exceptional with its first game Hollow Knight in 2017. and the Silksong trailers have left fans drooling over every bit of information they can possibly squeeze from it.
While Hollow Knight: Silksong has no release date at the moment, this hasn’t let the excitement down in any form. The game will have a lot to live up to, and there are some things that fans can expect to return, or even better, to be added in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s announcement trailer starts off with a few shots of what the world will look like and a couple of hints about the story and the plot involved. The developers have mostly stuck with what made Hollow Knight great in the first place, contrasting the presentation and the narrative to build a distinctly spooky vibe that ensures that the game looks ever so inviting. So while it’s sure to be really different, it’s also going to feel familiar.
The combat and movement mechanics seems to be mostly unchanged, although it does appear to focus on acrobatics and combat moreso than the last game. Indeed, this is likely a good choice, considering the first game nailed both of these features along with great Soulslike mechanics, but it seems there will be more of it. By last account, there’s over 150 types of enemies to fight. It seems the game is looking to carry over its unrelenting difficulty from the first game and introduce even more vicious foes that will test the might of even the most seasoned veterans.
There are a whole lot of new abilities and features that are going to be completely new to Hollow Knight: Silksong, though. The most obvious difference is that the levels and the world is going to be a lot more vertical from the first game, which is fitting considering the game will take place at a peak of sorts. In the same spirit, much of the newer abilities showcased in the game are going to help players maneuver the world in new and unexpected ways. Two of the biggest additions to the gameplay come in the form of a wall jump and a hook of sorts, which allows Hornet to pull herself closer to enemies. Hornet can also speak, unlike the first game’s PC, and so side quests, story, and more will likely be delivered in new ways.
Indie Success Hollow Knight was initially planned to have an underwater section but had to be cut during the final phase of development due to internal issues. Despite this, Silksong is expected to have an underwater section. The game is said to be considerably longer this time, which ensures all the added abilities and enemies get an adequate amount of time to shine. Side quests will also be a new addition to the mix, which will give players more reasons to backtrack and revisit older areas.
A great deal of gameplay has been shown already, and fans of the first game are sure to find a lot to love. The game has a mix of equal parts new and old, which seems to be for the best. As expectations for the sequel run high, Hollow Knight: Silksong seems to be going in the right direction to meet them.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently in development for PC and Switch.
