Similar to the infamous Skyrim mod, Cyberpunk 2077 now also has its own Thomas the Tank Engine mod, but this specific mod drops him in Night City in a very unexpected way.
A long time ago, a Skyrim mod created by modder Kevin Brock traded out Alduin and other dragons with Thomas the Tank Engine, complete with train whistles in the place of dragon roars and shouts. The imagery of the childish cartoon train violently murdering NPCs became so viral in the gaming community that other games began popping up with their own mods. A Fallout 4 mod turns all deathclaws into Thomas for a similar effect, a Sekiro mod makes him a boss, and a more recent Resident Evil 3 mod replaces Nemesis with Thomas. It was only a matter of time before a Cyberpunk 2077 mod popped up as well.
However, this Cyberpunk 2077 mod definitely isn’t what fans expected to see. Instead of dropping Thomas in as a vehicle or perhaps turning Adam Smasher into the Tank Engine, this mod from modder camtino swaps Dexter DeShawn’s head with Thomas. Appropriately named “Thomas DeShawn,” the mod is simple and doesn’t do much else otherwise. Dex still sounds the same, but it makes that scene at the end of the prologue all the more hilarious. According to camtino, there are still some bugs that need to be fixed, but the mod can be downloaded from Nexus Mods.
Of course, there are a number of other Thomas the Tank Engine mods for Cyberpunk 2077 already circulating. More expectedly, some of them make Thomas a purchasable vehicle in Night City, complete with the same engine noise from the television show. Some fans think it would be hilarious to add the iconic train whistle when V honks. But knowing the modding community, it’s only a matter of time before the Thomas the Tank Engine mods get more chaotic, such as by trading him out with JoyToys.
Lucky for PC users wanting to download Thomas DeShawn, it should be safe to do so now. Recently, CD Projekt Red warned of a vulnerability issue with Cyberpunk 2077 mods that allowed hackers to access personal information via the game data, only after a user notified the studio of the problem. At least on PCs, this issue looks to have been resolved by CDPR, but as always, use caution when downloading mods from unknown sources or with no user reviews.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions coming in 2021.
