Disneyland’s Avengers Campus Still Eyeing 2021 Opening

Disneyland’s highly-anticipated Avengers Campus had been gearing up to open in July of 2020, but due to the emergence of COVID-19 and the subsequent shutdown of the theme park, its grand debut was delayed with no clear specifics given on a new opening date. While Disneyland remains closed for the time being, reports indicate that resort execs are still aiming to open the Marvel-themed addition to the public sometime this year.

According to Cinema Blend, Disneyland Resort still has the Avengers Campus opening on the 2021 schedule, which means fans could expect to get a new opening date as soon as the state gives the green light. Construction of the Avengers Campus continued while the theme park was shut down and it appears that finishing touches are underway, with operators having conducted various tests on the exterior lighting earlier this month.

Since Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure remains open to the public, some guests who visited on the evening of February 3 caught a glimpse of the lighting tests in progress. The Avengers Campus section was walled off at the time, but its tallest buildings were clearly visible as they lit up in the distance. One of the sights that were noted by passersby included the spider logo of the WEB building, which will house the all-new Spider-Man attraction featuring Tom Holland as Peter Parker. The ride is expected to be a next-generation update of Toy Story Midway Mania, where participants can shoot webs at spider robots.

Additionally, the Avengers Campus is also expected to include a Doctor Strange-themed show, an Ant-Man-themed quick-service microbrewery, and an Avengers E-ticket concept that will allow fans to ride inside of the Quinjet. Some of these attractions are reportedly still in construction and may not be ready by the time the park reopens. They are likely to be included in Phase 2 of the Avengers Campus’ development instead.

Aside from the main attractions, Avengers Campus is also developing a new generation of audio-animatronics called “stunttronics,” which will feature a Spider-Man character swinging around the area. Live actors are also being cast to play popular Marvel heroes, which should add to the spectacle.

With these additions, Marvel fans seeking to experience a world inhabited by superheroes will certainly find what they are looking for at Avengers Campus. Should all go well with the current COVID-19 situation, Disneyland may be able to reopen its doors by the summer.

Disneyland’s Avengers Campus is set to open sometime this 2021.
