With Final Fantasy 7 Remake launching last year, fans of the franchise are well and truly reinvested in the tale of Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, and Barret’s epic battle against the villainous Sephiroth. Although the title only released last year, fans know there’s much more to come, and a recent tease from someone closely involved with the game has got the internet curious about the prospect of possibly seeing more soon.
Announced by Motomu Toriyama, the co-director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it seems news regarding the franchise will be discussed this weekend during a streamable orchestra concert based on the game. The announcement was made on the Square Enix Music Twitter account and later translated by Twitch Streamer Aitaikimochi, with Toriyama revealing that there will be a segment of the concert in which he will be revealing something about the remake.
“There will be a special part of the concert where I’ll make an appearance and talk about a few FF7R contents to be revealed,” the translation reads, with Toriyama advising those interested to “tune in.” Fans looking to watch the broadcast can jump into the stream on February 13 at 5 PM in Japan, which equates to around 12 AM PT and 3 AM ET. Seeing as the soundtrack for Final Fantasy 7 Remake was widely acclaimed, it’s sure to be a fun spectacle outside of its mysterious reveals.
As for what this announcement could be, it’s unlikely to be anything to do with Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s second installment, which is still in the midst of production. What’s more plausible is that this could concern a potential PC or Xbox port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, with rumors regarding a potential PC port spreading last month. The other possibility is a PlayStation 5 update, especially with the game being one of the more visually striking PlayStation 4 titles to release during the last generation. With it dropping so recently, there’s definitely a market for an enhanced version of the game that utilizes the state of the art visuals and SSD provided by the PlayStation 5. Whatever it is, fans won’t have to wait long to find out.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the biggest games of 2020, managing to live up to the lofty expectations fans of the original game had riding on its blockbuster reimagining. Not only did the title manage to recreate a longer and more action-packed rendition of the original’s Midgar sequence, but it also teased that the remake won’t be a cut and dry retelling of the original game, teasing some significant diversions in its story. Its sequel is currently in development.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out now on PlayStation 4.
