The Halo games have been one of the most revered FPS games of all time. A premier exclusive for Xbox, these games have always combined addictive shooting mechanics with deep lore to create a supremely engaging experience.
Halo Infinite will be releasing in the fall of 2021 after facing a delay, yet the game has a lot of new additions and weapons with one such being the Pulse Carbine. This newly-introduced weapon, the Pulse Carbine has perplexed many fans about its lore and history until its rendition in Halo Infinite.
The first thing fans need to know about this weapon is that Halo Infinite is the first game to feature this weapon. According to the lore, the Pulse Carbine has appeared before in Halo history but that’s only in Halo: Shadows of Reach which is a novel as well as in its expansion titled Sacrifice. So, much isn’t known about the Pulse Carbine with regards to the gameplay and history at this point in time.
From Halo Infinite‘s gameplay reveal and the known lore, the Pulse Carbine seems to a weapon that is in service with the Banished, a mercenary organization that broke away from the Covenant. What this reveals about the weapon is that it is a bit more precision-oriented and would take an experienced and well-trained mercenary to operate, which translates very well over to the gameplay showcase as well.
The Pulse Carbine is an assault rifle that has two properties named Burst and Plasma. During the gameplay showcase, Master Chief uses a Pulse Carbine for a few seconds. Shooting the weapon continuously will cause it to overheat, which requires a short interval of cooldown after which the player can fire again. There looks to be quite a bit of inaccuracy to the weapon as well, as shooting continuously causes the aiming reticule to spread by a significant amount.
The Pulse Carbine looks to be somewhat similar to the Type-51 Carbine, which is also known as the Covenant Carbine. This rifle is used by the Jiralhanae, which are commonly known as Brutes. This rifle is said to be a “Covenant recoil-operated and charger-fed, semi-automatic weapon.” Unlike some other weapons, BR Carbine comes with a 2x magnification scope. This weapon specializes in long-range engagement due to this 2x scope and, hence, requires an expert marksman to efficiently wield, which is exactly why the Jiranhanae uses it. That being said, the bullets fire off tracers which can give out the location of the shooter.
However, the Pulse Carbine is a bit different in some of these aspects. The inaccuracy of the weapon prevents it from being effective at long range, and the burst mode coupled with regular heating makes it unsuitable for spraying down multiple foes upfront. The ideal usage of the Pulse Carbine looks to be for mid-range combat, just like most assault weapons, where the burst should make the recoil controllable. Just like BR Carbine, the Pulse Carbine also looks to have distinctly visible tracers, which shouldn’t be as grave an issue as is with BR Carbine. The definitively known properties and speculative gameplay usage don’t tell much about this weapon, so it remains to be seen whether it finds itself in the best of the best or among the worst weapons in the Halo games.
Halo Infinite is set to release in 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
