Divinity: Original Sin 2 has multiple main characters for the player to take control of and take on their journey through the game. Each of these characters brings something different to the game like special dialogue and new story missions.
Each character has their own story that intertwines with the main story. Some of these stories are great, but others are lackluster. Some of these characters make great companions while some of them have players wishing they chose someone else. What makes the great one great though?
6 Beast
Many players agree that out of the six companions a player can choose from Beast is the worst. Beast’s quest revolves around one section of the main questline that is so small that it is easily forgotten. This section doesn’t appear until players reach the town of Driftwood and is soon over with. His quest revolves around the Dwarf queen. She happens to be his cousin. He tried to put a stop to her, but ultimately failed and now needs the player’s help to finish what he started. The quest sounds interesting but fails to meet expectations.
5 Lohse
Lohse makes for a great companion, but in terms of the story, she is a little predictable. She has many special dialogue areas and some enemies will even recognize her. This is great when playing the game, but her questline falls a little short. Her quest revolves around a demon that is the voice inside her head.
It compels her to do things that she doesn’t want to do and is slowly growing stronger. Soon it will take control over her and it’s the player’s job to try and help her. Her quest takes her to various places throughout the game but falls short of great.
4 The Red Prince
The Red Prince has a lot going for him in terms of gameplay, but his story doesn’t intersect with the main quest a lot. Fallen from grace, the player needs to help the Red Prince regain his rightful place at the throne. He has an extremely amusing sidequest that players can participate in when they reach Driftwood, but his main questline still falls a little short compared to others on the list. However, his quest is still far greater than previously mentioned characters and his personality does bring a little laughter at times.
3 Sebille
Sebille stands out as the only elf and cannibal that players can take with them on their journey. Her quest intertwines slightly with the main questline but ultimately stands out for the twists that it takes. She is useful to have for her ability to eat body parts.
This allows players to learn more about the characters of the world and even get answers for some side quests. Parts of her quest can feel a little cliche, so players should keep that in mind when selecting her as a companion.
2 Ifan
Ifan stands out as the character with the most interactions. As a companion, players will notice that he can interact with a lot of the side characters in the game. His famous stature helps a bit throughout the game and his questline has its moments. Ultimately, he stands out more than previously mentioned characters even though his story can drag on a little bit. Two of the recurring characters in the game have a specific relationship with Ifan which is nice to have when playing the main story.
1 Fane
Fane is the only undead member that players can have as a companion which helps him stand out. His snarky attitude is another reason that fans have grown to like him. His backstory is intertwined with the main story of the game and it shows through his quest. If players want to take the journey with an undead character then Fane is the one to do it with. The only way a player can truly grasp the lore of the entire game is with Fane in the party. He also plays the ending of the game very well.
