Ubisoft has waded into the discussion surrounding Lady Dimitrescu, the imposingly tall villain from Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil Village. In a Tweet from the official Assassin’s Creed account, the company posted an image comparing the statuesque antagonist with Eivor and Basim from 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla along with the message “Time for another round of ‘Smash, Step, Stab.'”
Fans were more than eager to jump into the conversation, demanding to know how other Assassin’s Creed Valhalla characters like Suttungr and Jotunheim’s Ice Giants stacked up against Lady Dimitrescu’s remarkable stature. The French Assassin’s Creed account even joined in, sharing a variation of the original image with the addition of the Eiffel Tower, noted as measuring “122.5 Lady Dimitrescu.”
Lady Dimitrescu, also known by fans as the Tall Vampire Lady, took the internet by storm after her introduction at Capcom’s Resident Evil Showcase in January. Showing up in both the official trailer and in the PS5 gameplay demo Maiden as a menacing presence with extendable Wolverine-like claws and a predatory smile, the good lady enjoyed instant popularity, in large part because of the imposing figure she cuts and the way she towers over the game’s protagonist Ethan Winters. Compared to the monstrous bulk of Resident Evil 2‘s Mr. X and Resident Evil 3‘s Nemesis, it seemed that fans were looking forward to having a somewhat different take on a towering and imperious adversary.
Art Director Tomonori Takano clearly approved of all the love his character was getting, as he soon took to Twitter to reveal that Lady Dimitrescu is in fact an impressive 2.9m (or 9ft 6in) tall, if you include her heels and hat. Fans, naturally, went wild and pretty soon the beloved vampire was featuring in cosplay and getting photoshopped into memes and movie posters with the best of them, catapulting her to Internet notoriety.
Game studios also decided to get in on the act, even before Ubisoft jumped into the fray with the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tribute. Control developer Remedy Entertainment got in on the act by setting Lady Dimitrescu next to a few of the baddies from The Oldest House, including the monumental 79.12m-tall The Former (though don’t worry, she still towers over Control protagonist Jesse Faden’s measly 1.75m). Even the official Xbox Twitter account rolled with the joke by amending its infamous image comparing the size of the Xbox Series X to that of a fridge to include Resident Evil Village‘s favorite high-heeled bloodsucker as another point of comparison.
With Resident Evil Village still a few months away, we’re unlikely to have heard the last of Lady Dimitrescu. Another gameplay demo isn’t going to be available until the spring, so the content of the showcase and the Maiden demo, in which the good lady features so prominently, will presumably dominate the discussion of the game at least until then. Fans certainly don’t seem to mind, though a certain miscreant from Silent Hill seems to be encouraging Lady Dimitrescu to keep her distance.
Resident Evil Village is set to release on May 7, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
