It Takes Two Switch Port Might Be Impossible to Make | Game Rant

Following his acclaimed work on A Way Out, Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios will be debuting their new game, It Takes Two, this March. The split-screen focused adventure centers around protagonists Cody and May: a couple who have been turned into dolls and must journey through a magical kingdom in an effort to return to their human forms and fix their estranged relationship.

Speaking about the upcoming release with Josef Fares, GamingBolt asked the director whether there were any plans in the works to bring It Takes Two to the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, Fares was quick to shoot down the idea, noting that he isn’t even sure the handheld console would be able to handle the co-op experience.

“No, we don’t have [any plans],” Fares responds when asked about the potential of a Nintendo Switch port. “Not sure we can do it actually,” he continues, claiming “we do split-screen games with a lot of s**t in it…there’s so much going on.” Of course, It Takes Two, much like A Way Outis a split-screen only game, and the amount of tech needed to ensure the concept works flawlessly for its entire runtime likely makes it a hard game to port to less powerful consoles.

Fares even tells the publication that “it takes a lot of effort to make this work on the old-gen consoles,” referring to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It seems the game is going to be a big experience with a lot of moving parts, and one that really needs the hardware featured on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X to run at its best. It’s unfortunate considering It Takes Two definitely looks to be a fun cooperative adventure that could’ve thrived on a platform as family-focused as the Nintendo Switch. As it stands, the game will be coming to both current and next-generation consoles, as well as the PC.

It Takes Two looks to be one of the first big games to come from EA this year and an anticipated follow-up considering A Way Out became such a revered title upon release. It followed two prisoners, Leo and Vincent, escaping from prison and going on the run, with the adventure forcing players to collaborate to solve puzzles and flee from tense situations. The game’s conclusion was a big talking point following its debut, turning the co-op dynamic of the game on its head through an interesting and unexpected third act shake-up. It made It Takes Two an instant game to watch and one that has a lot to live up to when it debuts in a few months’ time.

It Takes Two will release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on March 26.
