In the galaxy far, far away that is Anaheim California, Downtown Disney is about to unveil yet another reason crack open piggy banks all over the country. The Disneyland resort will very soon be opening up a brand new attraction: the Star Wars Trading Post, featuring all sorts of knick-knacks fit for a Jedi.
For quite some time now Disney parks and resorts have been suffering the heavy toll brought about by the pandemic, which has left them struggling with the question of how to draw in new customers and reconsider their current offerings. One of the recent changes has been to cancel the annual passholder program, and extend some extra privileges to former passholders.
One of those privileges has been the exclusive offer to preview some upcoming attractions before they’re made available to the general public. Those who used to own the annual pass will be allowed to visit the Star Wars Trading Post as early as February 16th, while the full release for the general public is February 19th.
The location is inspired by a rebel base hidden deep in the jungle, and will feature a variety of merchandise for those willing to pay a premium. Supposedly the trading post will sell lightsabers, apparel, accessories, droids and more from various Star Wars properties ranging from Galaxy’s Edge to the original trilogy.
To get slightly more specific, there will be some new clothing available featuring Grogu from The Mandalorian, a light-up souvenir sipper meant to recall Jabba the Hutt’s aquarium, and a new streetwear collection that will also be released online, on top of other new items. Those who wish to visit however should take note of Disney’s current safety rules, which include face coverings on guests older than 2, as well as social distancing requirements.
Anyone willing to brave the outdoors or, hopefully, has already been vaccinated, will be able to shop at the trading post themselves very soon. Of course, like everything at any theme park, these items will no doubt be sold at a high markup, so those hoping to deck themselves out in force-sensitive swag might want to make sure it won’t break the bank before they commit.
