Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War receives a new update fixing some bugs and improving user experience. Treyarch released a patch today to go along with the start of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War 2021 season.
In a recent content update, the developers added the Firebase Z map to the classic Zombies game mode. With all the unique mechanics, it looks like there needed to be a few tweaks to make the experience better. Plus with League play starting today as well, Treyarch is including some fixes to make the competitive mode more functional.
For those enjoying Firebase Z, they will have no doubt grabbed a Tombstone Soda. This special item allows players to revive themselves as a shadow after death. This is important for continuing the fight against the zombie hordes. However, before this patch the soda did not help much when enemies were swarming a player’s corpse. Now it will provide a knockback effect against zombies during restoration. This should allow soldiers to regain their footing after dying to a crowd of enemies.
League play is a ranked mode focusing on competition that just started this week. Unfortunately, with the launch came some issues that were having an effect on balance. Primarily, players were appearing in an unexpected Skill Division after placement matches. The confusion is due to a back-end data issue, so Treyarch is getting that fixed in this patch. After logging in, fans will probably see an adjustment to their rating. Another problem was how the Greed Wildcard equipped Ghost automatically when players should only be able to choose between Cold Blooded, Ninja, and Spycraft.
With so many new modes and changes recently, it is nice to see Treyarch is keeping an eye on the game. Bugs are a part of the reason League play is being seen as a blunder, especially with players getting incorrect placements from the get-go. Now that ability connects to the right Skill Division, matches should be fairer going forward. Though the Tombstone Soda buff is a small one, it will likely make the mode more tolerable to those currently playing.
Then again, it is concerning that Treyarch is already having to squash bugs for League play. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War glitches are giving unfair advantages recently, and this continues the trend. If anything, a highly competitive mode trying to be a e-sport should not have placement issues. Still, the developers seem to be resolving the problems quickly and improving the experience for supporters.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
