Eli Roth’s Borderlands movie has made another exciting casting announcement. Coming off the heels of Jaimie-Lee Curtis going the film, Actor and Jumanji star Jack Black has been cast into the role of Claptrap for the upcoming adaptation of the hit video game franchise, marking the latest addition to the ambitious sci-fi comedy.
The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who confirmed the casting choice. Jack Black will star as the infamous robot with a wild mouth, Claptrap, a comedic companion for the Vault Hunters of Borderlands. Claptrap has been long considered an icon of the Borderlands franchise, known for his absurd humor and wild antics. Claptrap was first introduced in the first Borderlands game in 2009, and has since had a major role in every Borderlands game since, including being a playable character in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
This is not the first time Jack Black and Eli Roth have worked together. Jack and Eli, along with Cate Blanchett, worked together on Eli Roth’s dark fantasy comedy, The House with a Clock in Its Walls. Eli welcomes this chance to work with Jack again, saying how exciting it is to work with Jack again, except this time, in a recording booth. The President of Lionsgate Picture Group, Nathan Kahane, calls the casting choice “one of the biggest no-brainer casting decisions we’ve ever made.” Jack Black’s casting is just the latest in a series of casting calls, which includes Jamie-Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannish and Kevin Hart as Roland.
This announcement is incredibly exciting, as Jack Black is known for his boisterous sensation of humor and absurdity. The actor had a small resurgence with his appearance as Professor Sheldon in Jumanji, and its sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level.
The personality of Claptrap, coupled with the acting talent of Jack Black is certain to make an entertaining impact on viewers, so long as the script is just right. Borderlands is shaping to be an incredibly ambitious sci-fi comedy adventure, and with the movie still a long way from production, there are plenty of surprises left in store for Borderlands.
Borderlands is currently in pre-production with no date set for filming, or release.
