King of Seas isn’t necessarily a newly announced game, but today is a majorly important announcement date for the ship-based RPG. That’s because today King of Seas developer 3DClouds can confirm it’s reached a publishing agreement with Team17. The announcement means that King of Seas will not only have the resources to polish the game up to expectations, but that it’ll also be translated into German, French, Spanish, as well as Traditional Chinese.
For those unfamiliar, King of Seas is a non-traditional RPG, but of a form that’s been seen some in recent years. It’s a ship-based RPG, as in players control a ship as it sails around a procedurally-generated world exploring, building settlements, and continuing a unique story that will introduce players to a robust collection of curious characters. RPG elements come into play with regards to ship customization and upgrades, which will be important for combat and progression.
King of Seas remains, for the time being, an entirely single-play experience. It’ll feature multiple game difficulties, so that players can try out newly procedurally generated worlds multiple times. It does sound like it has multiplayer potential, with multiple ships sailing the same map, but developer 3DClouds has made no such announcements at this time.
The one negative associated with King of Seas getting a new publisher in Team17 is that the pirate RPG has been delayed. Previously planned to launch in just one week, King of Seas will now be released this May. But it’ll be coming to more people across the world and in a much better state as a result.
King of Seas releases May 2021 on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
