New Persona 5 Strikers Trailer Sets Up the Game’s Story

Persona 5 Strikers is almost here and plenty of fans are excited to see the new adventure that awaits the Phantom Thieves following the story of Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal. Persona 5 Strikers is undoubtedly one of the biggest game releases of February 2021, and luckily fans won’t have to wait too much longer to dive in, considering the game comes out on February 23.

Now, Atlus West’s official YouTube channel has released a brand new “Liberate Hearts” trailer that sets up Persona 5 Strikers setting and story details. The trailer shows some of the game’s animated cutscenes, sets up a big new character, and gives some glimpses of what the Phantom Thieves of Hearts will be up against in Persona 5 Strikers.

This time around, the Phantom Thieves are headed back into the Metaverse, but not to explore Palaces. In Persona 5 Strikers, it looks like the Phantom Thieves are going into places called “Jails” to get back the stolen desires of citizens trapped inside them. However, like the original Persona 5‘s Palace dungeons it does look like some bigger villains will be in some position of power within these Jails, and the Phantom Thieves will have to take them on to change their hearts. The “Liberate Hearts” trailer shows off one of these villains, who appears to be some kind of Japanese idol named Alice.

The trailer also gives fans a brief look at the new character, Zenkichi Hasegawa, who looks to be an adult assisting the Phantom Thieves for a change. While the “Liberate Hearts” trailer does not show off a ton of the new gameplay, Atlus recently released a Persona 5 Strikers gameplay trailer that gives fans a look at the game’s UI as well as the new Musou-style battle system. Though the combat in Persona 5 Strikers is a big departure from the series’ traditional turn-based JRPG battle system, it looks to be a fast and fluid way to fight shadows all the same.

In a similar vein, it looks like a lot of Atlus and P Studio’s DNA remains with Persona 5 Strikers for those fans worried this title won’t capture that same magic. According to early reviews for Persona 5 Strikers it seems like the game is a fun follow-up to the original’s story that breathers new life into the tried and true Musou-style battle system. Other Musou or Warrior-style spinoffs like Hyrule Warriors and Age of Calamity have been pretty big success stories for game series with prestigious histories, and it seems like Persona 5 Strikers is going to be no different.

Persona 5 Strikers is a big deal for Atlus and Persona fans for a couple different reasons. Persona 5 Strikers is coming to Switch, making it the first Persona game to come to a Nintendo home console, as the Persona Q titles were relegated to the 3DS. Additionally, the game is also coming to PC, making it the second Persona title to come to PC following Persona 4 Golden‘s recent port. Needless to say, it looks like Persona has a bright and successful future ahead of it.

Persona 5 Strikers releases on February 23, 2021, for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
