Outriders’ Loot Confidence May Take It Far | Game Rant

One of the most concerning things that fans can see from an exciting new game, with a huge amount of hype surrounding it, is a lack of transparency with the developer. It’s always a breath of fresh air when developers like People Can Fly are upfront about delays like on the upcoming Outriders that has a huge amount of hype surrounding it as a “Destiny-killer.”

On top of how direct People Can Fly has been about Outriders, the developer has also shown off a good amount of the loot players will be fighting for before the game has even launched. There’s a level of confidence there, even with the delays, that could be worth paying attention to for players that might still be on the fence at this point.

When it comes to showing off gear, the recent Outriders Armor Week event provided a huge look at what People Can Fly has prepared for players as they jump into the game. Not only is this a great preview to get players excited, but its the kind of thing most games hold back until it comes to expansions or in-game events happening post-launch. It isn’t often that a developer is so open from the beginning of what players can expect, especially for other looter-shooters like Anthem and Destiny, which launched with less than spectacular end-game content.

This whole tactic of getting players excited for the new classes in Outriders, as well as some of the Legendary armor that they will be boasting, could mean a few things. Either there is enough variety that showing off one or two armor sets and class builds doesn’t cover everything coming with the base game, or these sets are impressive enough to add their own level of depth on their own. Regardless of which option is the case, showing its hand like this is a huge step for People Can Fly, and implies that the developer thinks that game has enough to stand on its own.

Of course, this could also go the other way, with this show of confidence in Outriders being done as an attempt to hide the flaws apparent in the upcoming title. However, with a demo coming to replace the original launch window before the recent delay, many of the game’s base problems will be on full display over a month before release. Similar titles that have hiccupped on this type of sneak peek have made the entire concept of a demo a risk, with fans now familiar with the smaller details that point to larger issues.

Looking at some other looter-based games centered on gearing up a customizable character with armor from around the in-game world, there are few better examples than Monster Hunter. Capcom’s upcoming Monster Hunter Rise demo has already proven to be a huge boost to the franchise’s move to Switch, and many of the armor sets and weapons were already shown off. The release of Monster Hunter: World was similar, and its player community continues to thrive, even as the developer has confirmed that there won’t be any new updates and development has moved to the next game.

This is the same type of confidence that players are seeing from People Can Fly as the developer continues to give consistent updates and a new Outriders demo. Other titles like Anthem and Destiny 2 were a bit more resistant to show off the limited endgame gear that was available at launch. Although, Bungie’s looter shooter still had stellar gameplay and a legacy to keep it moving forward. So, if the marketing is leaning more towards Monster Hunter‘s confidence, then players should be excited to see the developer show off what it has ready, and take the extra time a delay allows to make sure Outriders is polished.

Outriders releases on April 1, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
