In the world of Red Dead Redemption II, players can travel to a location inspired by New Orleans, Louisiana. St. Denis allows players to visit a city full of diversity and history. While exploring the city, players might stumble upon locations and events not expected to be seen. Some of these discoveries might be supernatural, while others are a fun surprise.
Some events require the player to complete a certain mission before it will show, while others can be found by walking around the city. With how big St. Denis is, there are sure to be some things players have not found yet.
10 Named After A Real Saint
Depending on where players enter St. Denis, they might find a sign that features a headless figure. This figure is a real saint, known as Saint Denis. The same symbol can be found on the flag of Lemoyne as well.
Saint Denis is the patron saint of Paris, being beheaded in Paris. According to legend, Denis walked for a few miles while carrying his head. He ended up falling at what is now the Basilica of Saint-Denis.
9 Secret Poker Game Found At The Gunsmith
Players can be tipped off about a secret poker game at the gunsmith. While robbing the gunsmith, a new option will appear for the store owner to take the player upstairs to the game room. The game is taking place on the third floor, with guards spotting the player near the top.
Players will have to kill a few enemies, but afterward, they will be able to loot the room. There is also a safe in one room, requiring someone to be held at gunpoint for it to be opened.
8 Originally Named New Bordeaux
While Red Dead II was in development, a map was leaked that revealed St. Denis might have originally been called New Bordeaux. When Mafia III was announced, it was revealed their version of New Orleans was going to be called New Bordeaux as well.
With Mafia III releasing first, Red Dead II needed to change their name. The city’s original name was still a reference to France, with Bordeaux being both a type of wine and a city in France.
7 Hosea And Lenny’s Graves Found Nearby
While robbing the bank in St. Denis, the Pinkerton Detective Agency surrounds the Van Der Linde gang. Things go wrong and two members of the gang, Hosea Matthews and Lenny Summers, are killed. A majority of the gang members from the heist are shipwrecked in Guarma, but Hosea and Lenny still get a burial.
The graves can be found north of St. Denis in Bluewater Marsh. Sadie mentions she and a few other members got Lenny and Hosea’s bodies out of the morgue. Both are buried next to each other, meaning neither are far from a friend.
6 Fish Up An Arm
While fishing near St. Denis, there is a chance that players will catch something really unique, an arm. The protagonist comments on it being someone they know. This is a reference to a side mission that is also available in the city.
During the mission “Idealism and Pragmatism for Beginners”, the player is tasked with covering up the mayor of St. Denis’ corruption. At the end of the mission, the player is given the choice to spare the deputy mayor or kill him. Choosing the latter option requires the player to dump the body in the water behind the mayor’s mansion.
5 One Of Two Cities With Uniformed Police
Being an actual city, it should be expected the police of St. Denis have uniforms. The only other town in the game to have this is Blackwater in West Elizabeth. The police in St. Denis have a blue uniform and black helmets.
Unlike other forms of law enforcement, the St. Denis police can be found guarding certain areas and patrolling the streets. When going after a criminal, the police will also use a whistle to alert citizens to get out of the way of a chase.
4 You Can Find Trelawny’s House
As players walk through the apartment area of St. Denis, they might hear a familiar voice. This voice is Josiah Trelawny, a member of the Van Der Linde gang. He will be talking to his wife and sons, revealing where he goes when not with the gang. It becomes clear that his family does not know he lives a life of crime.
The player can call out to Trelawny in disbelief, with Trelawny becoming nervous. He will tell Arthur that he’ll see him back at “the office” while saying he is busy with his family. At the very least, Trelawny most likely had a good place to go to after the gang fall apart.
3 You Can Find Tilly In 1907
Aside from Trelawny, it seems another member of the Van Der Linde gang also has a happy ending. Tilly Jackson will escape from the Pinkertons, and the chaos of the gang, to marry a lawyer in St. Denis. Players can learn this by visiting the city during the epilogue.
At the park near the tailor shop, Tilly can be found reading on a bench. John can chat with her for a bit before she needs to get on the trolley. She’ll write a letter to John later, revealing she still sees Mary-Beth from time to time.
2 You Can Be The Local Pest Control
As players are traveling through the city, they might run across a tavern owner turning customers away. Talking to the man will reveal that his business has been infested with rats. The player has the option to help out, being allowed inside of the business.
The rats will be located in random locations such as on the bar, on tables, and behind shelves. The player must kill each rat and pick up their bodies to complete the side job. The bar owner will be thankful and give the player a reward for their services.
1 A Vampire Stalks The Streets
Players might notice some phrases on the walls of St. Denis. By jotting down the 5 phrases and their locations, players will learn the location of the vampire. It is an alley opposite the general store. The vampire will only be in this location from midnight to 1 am.
Players will find the vampire drinking blood from another victim. The blood-thirsty creatue will threaten the player, and they have the option to antagonize the foe. Staying long enough will get the player attacked, making it necessary to kill the vampire. Looting the corpse will give the player an ornate dagger, stringy meat, and two bat wings.
