Like with previous holidays, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is providing players with some limited time items to celebrate Lunar New Year. For any Animal Crossing: New Horizons players interested, the items can be claimed right now — and two are incredibly special.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans can find the items in Nook Shopping, which can be accessed via the Nook Stop or the app on players’ phones. From there, it is as simple as heading over to the Seasonal tab and purchasing the items, with players able to buy the Korean and Chinese New Year-themed bits until February 17. The items include the Lunar New Year Decoration, which costs 2,000 bells and should serve as a good way to brighten up the walls of each player’s house.
However, the far more interesting items are the Bokjumeoni Lucky Pouch and the Lucky Red Envelope. Showcased through a post on the official Animal Crossing Twitter page, these items both cost 500 Bells and have a special ability. Functioning like wrapping paper, fans of the incredibly successful Switch game can wrap up bells inside the Pouch and Envelope — transforming the items into Lucky Money and a Sebaetdon respectively. While these money-filled items can be placed as a decoration or given to friends, they have another memorable use.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it is impossible to give a normal bag of bells or handful of coins to villagers, as they will turn down the gift and refuse the money. However, these holiday-themed money items are a bit different. If players wrap up bells in the Envelope or Pouch, they can provide their favorite Animal Crossing villagers with money to celebrate Lunar New Year. With this being the only known workaround to give island companions money, bellionaires may want to stock up on Lunar New Year Pouches and Envelopes.
For players more interested in celebrating Valentine’s Day inside Animal Crossing, there are a series of items in the Season tab that are themed around this holiday as well. Players can get boxes of chocolates for their friends and villagers as well as a heart-shaped bouquet of flowers, with the latter seeing different colored flowers available every day. However, with the items disappearing on February 14, players will want to grab them quickly. There are also some Super Bowl-themed football items in the Seasonal section of Nook Shopping, with these goodies leaving on February 15.
With Animal Crossing: New Horizons doing such a good job with covering holidays in the past, it is nice to see that Nintendo is continuing this tradition with some Lunar New Year’s content. With a new message from Animal Crossing mascot Isabelle seen in the morning announcements as well, those who celebrate the holiday have a fair bit of content to enjoy inside the game.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
