Since the integration late last year between Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone, the weapon meta seemingly changes from week to week. Players flock to certain weapons to gain an advantage over the competition, helping certain weapons to rise above others like the DMR, R-9 shotgun, and the Grau. Naturally, Raven Software typically intervenes to nerf these weapons to bring them back in line with the rest.
However, the Call of Duty: Warzone community is always experimenting in an attempt to try and find the next big weapon such as the Mac-10 submachine gun. One weapon that has been getting a lot of attention from the community lately is the FFAR assault rifle, which was added to the game in December during the integration. While it has high recoil, fans have found the weapon to be fairly strong if built the right way. FaZe Clan member NICKMERCS also shed some light on the weapon potentially being even better than most thought thanks to what he’s calling a secret buff.
According to NICKMERCS, when certain attachments are placed upon the already strong FFAR-1, it seems to make it even more viable than Raven likely intended. Following a recent update, it seems that a few adjustments were made which further buff the weapon making it shoot to the top of the game’s current meta. Specifically, the Ranger Barrel was highlighted in NICKMERCS’ latest video which appears to have had its bullet velocity rate nearly doubled from 57% to 89%.
The other attachment that seems to have been secretly improved is the Task Force Barrel, which seems to have received a similar buff regarding the bullet velocity increasing it by 16%. Essentially, with higher bullet velocity, the rounds fired from the weapon reach their target faster than a weapon with slower velocity. This means that players can apply damage to a target much faster with higher velocity stats. The discoveries were made using the Black Ops Cold War Gunsmith feature, which seems to be a boon for many players attempting to figure out the best loadouts for any given match.
The news is likely going to leave fans divided. While some will likely enjoy the new found knowledge, the fact that these buffs were made in secret likely won’t sit well with players. This isn’t the first time that changes have been made to Call of Duty without fans being aware. In fact, just in the past year, fans have discovered a number of changes that have been made outside of official patch notes, including a big list of secret changes in season 1. Considering that small adjustments can be the difference between life or death in this fast paced shooter, it’s understandable that players would prefer to know exactly what has changed rather than finding out by experimentation.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
