Ghosts ‘N Goblins Resurrection Will Feature Adjustable Difficulty Levels

The worldwide release of Capcom’s revamped video game Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is only a couple days away. As a way to entice both old and new fans to pick up one of the world’s most difficult old-school platformer titles, Capcom has released a third developer video that focuses more on the updates being implemented in the reboot. This time, Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection’s producer talks about what players can expect has changed about the game’s difficulty levels.

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection was first announced to be headed for the Nintendo Switch in 2020’s The Game Awards. Famously known for its incredibly difficult side-scroll gameplay, this is not the first time the title was brought from the arcades and into the homes of the fans via old-school platforms such as the NES. With the title being released on the portable console, new generation players will finally be able to experience the game’s unique story-telling and gameplay wherever they go.

In the two-minute video posted on Capcom USA’s official YouTube channel, Peter Fabiano, the producer of Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection, went in-depth on a new feature the devs are putting into the game. For the reboot, Capcom has decided to make the difficulty levels adjustable, providing players a chance to enjoy the platformer gameplay, no matter what their skill level is. Fabiano shares that this was done to recreate the sense of achievement felt when players get farther into the story until they are finally able to reach the game’s ending.

The four difficulty levels outlined in the video are named Page, Squire, Knight, and Legend. Fabiano states that the main differences between the four will be seen and felt in how much damage Arthur will be able to take until all his armor breaks stripping him down to his boxers, and the number of Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection enemies and monsters that spawn in each level. There will also be some minor adjustments to showcase how the difficulty levels will differ from each other, but players will have to actually play the game to notice them, according to Fabiano.

Fabiano recommends that most players take a turn on the Knight difficulty to really get a sense of how Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection was played back in the olden days. However, for those looking for a challenge, and want to play the game how the creator of the original title intended, Fabiano suggests amping it up and playing on the Legend difficulty. For players who simply want to go through the main narrative, the Page difficulty level will allow them to do so without the normal challenges the game will usually bring.

Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch on February 25, 2021.
