Mass Effect Fan Petitions to Make Mako Even Harder to Control in Legendary Edition

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is bringing some major changes to the first game in the trilogy, with many having been requested by fans for years. One of the biggest Mass Effect: Legendary Edition updates ties back to the Mako, and one fan is already asking for the fixes to be reverted.

The first Mass Effect is being improved heavily through the Legendary Edition, with better AI, smoother aiming, and major visual upgrades being a few of the more noticeable differences. With a better system for auto saving and smoother elevator sequences also included, the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition version of the series’ first game sounds like it is the best way to play — and the improvements to the Mako vehicle make the upgrade sound even more appealing.

In the original version of Mass Effect 1, the Mako was considered one of the worst aspects of the game due to how poorly the exploration vehicle controlled. However, the improved version of the Mako will see its control scheme fixed while also boosting its speed and removing the rover’s odd, bouncy physics. While these changes quickly led to fans of the original game sharing their excitement about the much-needed rework, one Mass Effect fan has created a petition pushing for the Mako to remain a headache.

Joking that the fan favorite companion Garrus would prefer it if the vehicle controlled poorly, Redditor TheQuarrelSomeEmu details a set of controls that would make the Mako even worse. With new functions like somersault buttons that lean into the vehicle’s problems, sending players into a “random direction but always at maximum intensity,” the post should make any Mass Effect fan smile. With triggers and bumpers used to make tires deflate and the Xbox controller’s B button kicking teammates out of the vehicle entirely, the humorous post works incredibly well.

With players sharing more jokes in the comments, such as Reddit user rcs799 suggesting that players should “start every level surrounded by even higher mountains,” Mass Effect 1 fans should be hit by both a wave of nostalgia and a feeling of PTSD when reading through the post. Still, while this petition was clearly made as a joke, it is worth noting that there is a small part of the community that would like the Mako to stay the same — with this group of players believing its problems added some charm to the game.

Regardless, most fans should he happy to see that the Mako will be helping players on the first part of Shepherd’s journey as opposed to holding them back. While fans may not be seeing the popular Indoctrination Theory become canon, at least the requests for Mako changes have not fallen on deaf ears.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition releases May 14 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
