Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time drops on the Nintendo Switch in less than a month, and information about the game is being revealed as the launch draws closer. Details on how the Switch version of Crash Bandicoot 4 runs just came out a few days ago, as fans are eager to learn about the performance of the game on Nintendo’s hybrid console. Perhaps equally important is the file size of the game, and that has just been confirmed.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time reviewed quite well when it launched last October on the PS4 and Xbox One. The bandicoot has come a long way since his platforming days on the original PlayStation, and It’s About Time is praised for its tight controls, great graphics, and old-school challenge. Platformers seem to be a great fit on Nintendo consoles, so the fact that Crash Bandidoot 4 is coming to the Switch feels right. What could be a concern for many is file size, as the game is relatively large on the PS4, but it seems it was optimized to fit on the Switch quite nicely.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will be 9.4 GB on Switch, according to Nintendo’s online listing. To put that into perspective, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes up 14.4 GB of space. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time takes up about 45 GB on the PS4, so it looks like developer Toys for Bob did a lot of work to squeeze the game onto the Switch.
For many gamers, the install size of the Nintendo Switch is important. Nintendo’s hybrid console only comes with 32 GB of space naturally, a far cry from the numbers of the PlayStation and Xbox. While micro SD cards can be purchases to alleviate some of the pressure, many developers (including Nintendo) do a good job of keeping file sizes on the smaller side. For example, Respawn Entertainment is bringing its popular battle royale to the hybrid console, and the file size of Apex Legends on the Switch is the same as on other consoles.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is headed to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as well next month. That version will feature 4K resolution and 60 frames-per-second, something the Switch version cannot boast. However, the Nintendo Switch version can be taken on the go, something that will always be a selling point of the console.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is available now on PS4 and Xbox One. The game will release on Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 12, 2021, and on PC later in 2021.
