Most of the iconic goals in football history are long shots, and for good reason. Fifa 21 players know how satisfying it is to put the ball in the back of the net from outside the box, but few know how to shoot consistently. Every FUT player card has individual stats that are more intricate than the six base stats indicate.
Depending on the type of long shot a player wants to score, the stats of a card will determine how probable it is that the shot will be on target. FUT players must first have a player card that is capable of scoring a long shot before testing a keeper from range. If the ball is on the foot of a capable player, there are several different ways to score from long distance.
Shooting to the wide side of the net has been one of the most effective ways to score from range since Fifa 11. To perform the long-shot, players on the right side of the net should shoot with their right foot while aiming at the left side of the net. Likewise, players on the left should take the shot with their left foot and aim at the top right corner of the net.
Players should use the arena and other practice modes to master the timing and aim required to score from distance. Around the box, players can even sneak in near post shots using the same tactic. Players will have the most success when their character is facing directly toward the front of the goal. To score a wide side longshot, player cards need to have shot power and long shots in the 80s. While the occasional shot may go in for players with lower stats, 80 shot power and 80 long shots are necessary to score on a consistent basis.
Another tried and true way to get the ball in the net from range is to finesse the ball around the keeper. Players on the left side of the net should position the character parallel with the endline, facing the sideline. Before shooting, players should aim just outside of the right corner of the net. The goal is to have the ball’s trajectory begin outside of the post and curl it in.
Players often struggle to get the placement correct and have the ball curve right into the goalkeeper. Like the wide side longshots, players will have to perfect how long to hold down the shoot and finesse buttons, as well as where to aim. Once players have the basics down, becoming great at longshots is primarily about feel. Players need to practice these techniques before they will work in seasons. The most important stats for finesse shots are longshots, curve, and shot power. Player cards that have all three of these attributes in the 80s will be able to curl in shots from well outside the box. By using the same tactics, players using the card’s stronger inside foot can perform an outside foot shot that will curve around the keeper.
Similar to real-life football, players can get more power and curve on a ball that is suspended in the air. Players can create volley scenarios by crossing or passing over the top. Additionally, players can do the ball hop while standing to prop the ball up for a powerful shot. Once the ball is in the air, players should try to volley when the ball is around the characters hip or let the ball fall to the pitch and shoot on the half volley.
Only players with good volley stats will be able to shoot on a full volley. Similar to the wide side shot, players need good shot power and long shots as well. Players can choose to shoot to the wide side of the net or try a dipping shot when positioned outside the center of the box.
