G4 Revival is Bringing Back Adam Sessler | Game Rant

After teasing a possible return of its flagship shows X-Play and Attack of the Show, the rebooting G4 network has confirmed that X-Play host and video game critic Adam Sessler will be returning to the network.

The end of G4 began in 2012, when both Attack of the Show and X-Play were cancelled, partially as a result of the boom of online games coverage and live-streamed content. The network was influential in giving video game criticism and journalism validity and inspiring hundreds of people to work in the industry or create their own YouTube or Twitch channels.

In a new comedy video befitting old G4’s irreverent and self-deprecating sense of humor, pretend G4 CEO and comedian Gus Johnson announced multiple hosts for its impending relaunch this year. The new hosts announced are esports commentators Froskurinn and Ovilee May, while the returning hosts are Attack of the Show’s Kevin Pereira and X-Play’s Adam Sessler.

The video also starts off with a reminder that WWE superstar Austin Creed was announced as the first host of the new G4 in November 2020. As of now it is unclear who, if anyone, will be joining Pereira and Sessler to host their respective shows.

X-Play’s Morgan Webb and Attack of the Show’s Olivia Munn did make appearances on the G4 reunion special, but that is not necessarily an indicator of their desire or ability to return as full-time hosts. Webb now works at indie game developer Bonfire Studios and Munn stars in TV shows and blockbuster films like X-Men: Apocalypse and The Predator, so it is at this point unknown if either host will return.

X-Play and Attack of the Show were cancelled shortly before G4 was rebranded as The Esquire Network. The Esquire Network did not last long at all, meaning X-Play survived parent company NBCUniversal’s attempted rebrand. That was not lost on Sessler, who took the opportunity to poke fun at the now-defunct Esquire Network on Twitter.

G4 does not yet have a concrete return date, but it is expected to return sometime in 2021. With the hiring of Froskurinn and May, it is clear the network will have more of a esports focus, which is something the original G4 just missed the boom of. It will be interesting to see what shape the new G4 finally takes, and how it will fair against the internet age of on-demand gaming content.

G4 will launch later in 2021.
