Marvel Character/Game Studio Dream Match-Ups | Game Rant

The Marvel universe has taken the world by storm this past decade, with the MCU slate of interconnected films usually dominating the top spots at the box office. This popularity within the entertainment industry has recently spilled over onto the gaming scene, with Sony and Insomniac’s Spider-Man series becoming a must-play action adventure experience.

While the wall crawler is undoubtedly a beloved Marvel character, there are countless other heroes and villains within the pages of the comics still waiting for a time to shine in the video game medium. From super strength and power of flight to telepathy and adamantium claws, plenty of Marvel superheroes deserve the video game treatment and its just the question of which developer  would be the right choice for the job.

Although Iron Man VR recently launched, attempting to simulate what it would feel like to be directly inside one of Tony Stark’s many armored suits, there is still room for a true, triple-A action game. The armored Avenger’s limitless arsenal of destructive weaponry and capacity to take on opponents both on the ground and high in the sky seems like a perfect fit for Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios.

The Just Cause series prides itself on huge open world maps and relentless mayhem, which would place a character larger than life like Iron Man right at home. The wingsuit in the Just Cause games, with a few adjustments, could serve as the perfect blueprint for what playing as Iron Man would be like in a video game. Most importantly though, Avalanche knows how to make explosions look amazing, which is something gamers would expect from a superhero that can take on tanks and fighter jets.

Everything needed to understand this Marvel character is right there in the second word of his name: strange. A video game capturing what it would be like to be the master of the mystic arts needs to be mind-bending and whimsically weird, which leaves no better developer for the job than Remedy Entertainment.

The Finland-based studio is well known for its delightfully bizarre, psychological action games such as Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and multiple game of the year nominee Control. The distorted visuals and supernatural abilities in Control alone capture the essence of what Doctor Strange is all about, with the capabilities to warp reality itself all while the surrounding environments twist and morph into wild new shapes and sizes.

When it comes to the incredible Hulk, fans expect the very basic concept of smashing everything in sight as the one thing a developer would need to get right. Luckily, there is a video game developer that has become very familiar with causing total anarchy, coupled with impressive destruction physics to boot, and that is Volition. While The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is one of the best superhero games of the 2000s, the green goliath is due for a next gen update.

Acquiring its claim to fame with both the Saints Row and Red Faction series, Volition is recognized for crafting games that are pure power fantasies, endowing players with ridiculously overpowered skillsets and weapons, and then dropping them in a massive sandbox environment to wreak total havoc. The angrier the Hulk gets, the stronger he gets, which alone is a compelling enough reason for Volition to go crazy with a video game interpretation of the The Hulk.

The Merc with a Mouth has already taken a stab at being the star of his very own video game in the 2013 hack-and-slash title from High Moon Studios. It got the style and humor down for the character, but the gameplay left much to be desired, with mixed reviews for the Deadpool game across the board.

If there is one game developer in the world that perfectly understands how to combine Deadpool’s sense of humor with bombastic action, it would be PlatinumGames. From flagship franchises like Bayonetta to underrated titles like Vanquish, the developer gets how to put a player in control of a fast-paced thrill ride, with death defying combat moves and hilarious, over the top scenarios.
