Some Pokemon GO Players Think Their Shiny Pokemon Are Disappearing from the Game

For as long as Pokemon GO has been out, Niantic has released plenty of updates to keep the game fresh so fans continue to play. With things such as the Valentine’s Day Challenge in Pokemon GO, many trainers can spend their time completing research tasks and collecting rare Shiny Pokemon.

Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO have become a cherished addition to any trainer’s team, because it is rare even to encounter them, let alone catch one. However, recently there have been reports of Pokemon GO trainers whose shiny Pokemon have disappeared from their accounts.

While these sort of missing glitches in Pokemon GO are something players have dealt with before, it has never been with anything as valuable as shiny Pokemon. These Pokemon are still missing from the trainer’s accounts, and many fans are furious due to the seemingly lack of a good answer from Niantic.

Part of this trend started yesterday when a fan posted to Twitter about how both their regular and Shiny Gyarados in Pokemon GO are missing from their account. After the Tweet made its way onto Facebook groups, many other trainers were sharing stories of their experience with this as well. Other Pokemon that trainers have been missing include Mudkip, Machop, Articuno, and Slaking. There are multiple instances of these lost Pokemon being taken out of their Pokedex as well.

The glitch appears to be affecting both new and old shinies that trainers caught years ago as well. According to Dexerto, Niantic Customer Support explained that these were all the results of accidental trades in response to the concerns. This is what the company claims will happen when trainers leave their phone on in their pockets while they are out, or with second party having access to the account and making the trade for them. If this is the case, players’ primary way to protect themselves from these issues is to lock their game and take a screenshot of their valuable shinies.

Many fans were not buying Niantic’s explanation for the missing Pokemon. Some were even offended that Niantic would suggest they accidentally traded a valuable Pokemon. It is fair to be critical of that answer; it seems unlikely that multiple people would unintentionally do this. The odds of it always being the trainer’s shiny Pokemon seems questionable as well.

The accidental trading explanation that was given also doesn’t clarify why some Pokemon were also removed from the trainer’s Pokedex, which would theoretically still have a record of players catching it. Hopefully, whatever the reason might be, Niantic can get this situation squared away and recover Pokemon GO fans’ lost Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
