Destiny 2 Update Adds Cosmodrome Battleground and New Seasonal Challenges

An update for Destiny 2: Beyond Light added a Cosmodrome Battleground and Seasonal Challenges. Fans of Destiny 2 can hop back in, because Bungie has added some additional content to take part in.

As a live service game, the title has consistently received changes over the past few years. With Destiny 2’s newest expansion Beyond Light, many previous locations and quests were vaulted to make way for Bungie’s new direction. Since then, there have been unique modes like Battlegrounds, as well as alternate grinds to chase, such as Seasonal Challenges.

With Season of the Chosen, the developer created a special PvE mode for players to explore. Battlegrounds are this season’s main feature, with Guardians taking out hordes of dangerous enemies until reaching a big, bad boss arrives at the end. For this update, the fight moves over to the Cosmodrome on Earth, a location from the first Destiny. Players will hop into the middle of a warzone between Cabal and Hive enemy types. From taking out a defensive line to finishing off a Cabal Incinerator, those taking part will have their hands full, especially if fireteams decide to take on the more difficult version, which includes Champion tier targets.

To replace Weekly Bounties, Seasonal Challenges were added for players to farm instead. Currently, those activities tie directly to the new Battlegrounds mode, as well as other events in Destiny 2. That said, players are limited to finishing three of these a week, so there is no way to finish them all quickly. Beating these can help Guardians boost their Hammer of Proving. Some of the other Seasonal Challenges require playing Gambit or Crucible, so squads will have plenty to do after exhausting Battlegrounds.

Even with any controversial changes, Bungie has stuck to keeping the experience fresh in Destiny 2. While there is an ebb and flow to content that players deem enjoyable, it sounds like Battlegrounds is picking things up. These massive battles provide tons of action and fodder for Guardians to unleash their Stasis subclass abilities. And with Weekly Bounties having been around for years, Seasonal Challenges should be a decent change of pace.

Though, certain fans may be burned out from Destiny 2‘s monotonous seasonal grind. While there does seem to be some additional story elements in Battlegrounds, it is unlikely it will significantly develop the narrative. In addition, many players cannot necessarily access a lot of this new content without buying Season of the Chosen. Having to constantly throw down more for repetitive content is not exactly an enticing offer. Nevertheless, the Destiny 2 community can enjoy a collection of exciting activities this season.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
