God of War Dev Reveals Incredible Joker Art | Game Rant

God of War art director Rafael Grassetti has shared dozens of incredible art pieces in the past. While some are related to Kratos, even more are not related to God of War, as the artist has reimagined everything from superheroes to video game characters.

While Grassetti has shared stellar Marvel art in the past, he is particularly fond of Batman as well. Sharing several pieces depicting the Caped Crusader and standout members of his deep rogue’s gallery, Grassetti’s Batman art lineup has been expanded with a new piece centered on the hero’s most iconic villain. Showcasing none other than The Joker, The Clown Prince of Crime looks perfect in the polished and detailed image.

An experienced artist who has proven his skill time and time again, it is hardly surprising that Rafael Grassetti’s new piece showcases expert lighting and different textures throughout the piece. Joker takes on his classic look in the artwork, sporting a purple suit that fits well with his white skin and green hair. The smile and eyes in the image are particularly great, as Joker is made out to look as terrifying as he has ever been through this art. The items around Joker are worth pointing out too, though, as they spotlight Grassetti’s eye for detail.

Joker can be seen holding Batman’s cowl in the image, with green paint added above and below the eyes to make the cowl appear as if it is a clown mask. On top of this, the mouth has been ripped and stretched to make Batman’s legendary mask “smile,” a great touch that improves the image greatly. However, the detail does not stop there, as fans caught on to several details hidden in the chair Joker is sitting on — all of which reference other popular Batman villains.

Penguin’s face can be seen on the end of the chair to the left of Joker’s knee, with Poison Ivy’s plants make up the sides of the chair. At the top, several cats can be seen, a clear nod to Catwoman. At the top of the chair, Bane’s mask can be seen, with two coins to the left and right that are meant to resemble Two Face. In the post, Grassetti reveals that this image will be used as a special cover for the first issue of a new Joker comic book series, with DC making good use of the artist’s work.

With Zack Snyder’s take on Joker recently being revealed as well, the post comes at a perfect time. Fans of the character’s classic look should love what Grassetti has made though, and those that love the artists work can look forward to seeing his characters brought to life in God of War’s upcoming sequel.

The God of War: Ragnarok sequel is slated for a 2021 release on PS5.
