Game Freak has shown a clear pattern when it comes to remaking its Pokemon games. Starting with 2004’s Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, Pokemon remakes have released roughly every five years, with HeartGold and SoulSilver following in 2009 and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire launching in 2014. It’s been seven years since the launch of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and so fans are overdue for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes.
Fans have been anticipating Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes as the next set of Pokemon games for quite some time, though no official announcement has been made. Leaks from reliable sources have claimed that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes are indeed in active development for the Nintendo Switch, and based on Game Freak’s development history, they really seem like an inevitability. And now there’s even more evidence that the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes exist.
A mysterious Twitter account has appeared online with the handle pokemondp15th – a likely reference to 2021 being the 15th anniversary for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (the games launched in Japan in 2006, though they didn’t come to other regions until 2007). This Twitter account, whose tweets are currently set to private, is assumed to be for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes, but fans should keep in mind that the account could be fake.
Sometimes Twitter accounts like these have been found and have been a genuine clue as to what to expect from a future video game announcement. Other times these Twitter accounts are faked by fans to get people riled up online. Luckily, fans shouldn’t have to wait all that much longer to find out if this Twitter account is legitimate. If Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes are in development, there is a decent chance that they will be announced at some point later this month.
It’s possible that Nintendo could announce the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes at the Nintendo Direct presentation it has scheduled for February 17 at 2:00 pm PT. And if the announcement doesn’t come then, it’s also possible that it will happen during Pokemon Day on February 27. Pokemon fans will want to tune in to both events just in case.
2021 is the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, so big announcements are assuredly on the way. Whether or not those announcements include the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes has yet to be determined, but fans should find out within the next month or so.
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are available for the Nintendo DS.
