Announced at today’s Nintendo Direct, Outer Wilds will launch for the Switch this summer, bringing the 22-minute time looping adventure to Nintendo’s hit console.
Not to be confused with The Outer Worlds, another renowned title that released in 2019, Outer Wilds launched to high critical acclaim. Taking place in an alternate reality, players assume the role of an unnamed astronaut that is tasked with finding the Eye of the Universe before the universe ends. The sun, along with every other star in the universe, is going supernova, setting the game into a 22-minute loop.
Thanks to the long-awaited Nintendo Direct that premiered on February 17, players can expect Outer Wilds on the Nintendo Switch this summer. Though a release date or price for Mobius’ time-loop game was not announced, the game went for $24.99 at its original launch. Additionally, it doesn’t look like any new features will be added to the Switch version of Outer Wilds.
Following a successful launch, Outer Wilds was nominated for several awards including Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Design, Music, and more. Outer Wilds won three BAFTA awards, including the coveted best game award. In doing so, it beat out other widely beloved games such as Remedy Entertainment’s Control, ZA/UM’s Disco Elysium, and House House’s Untitled Goose Game.
As the game was previously only available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, many are expecting Outer Wilds to have a large audience on the Switch.
Outer Wilds is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and is coming to the Switch Summer 2021.
