Today’s Nintendo Direct opened strong with the reveal of the next fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Joining the game alongside an older Mii Costume, Xenoblade Chronicles 2‘s popular Blades Pyra and Mythra are prepared to be the next character to be added the growing roster.
The reveal was the first thing shown at the start of the Nintendo Direct, immediately making good on fan expectations to see a new character join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While players may have hoped to see characters like Devil May Cry’s Dante or Kingdom Hearts’ Sora join the fighting game, both Pyra and Mythra have become icons of their own since the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Pyra and Mythra are set to arrive in March 2021, and the two characters will also be bringing a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 stage to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, while the premier showed off two characters, this will be one fighter, being able to be switched between quickly like Zelda and Sheik in previous games in the series. Each form appears to have its own strengths and weaknesses, and unique final smash attacks depending on which of the two is out at the time of use.
