Xbox Fans Think They Have Spotted Secrets in the Series X Fridge Trailer

Microsoft, especially with the console generation cycle of the Xbox Series X, has seemingly found a penchant for hidden teasers throughout its content. Now, some Xbox fans believe they have spotted even more secrets in the Xbox Series X fridge trailer.

When Microsoft first unveiled their latest and greatest console, fans were quick to point out its similarities to a refrigerator. While Sony’s PS5 was also met with comparisons to an internet router, Microsoft decided to roll with the punches. Similar to how the Halo Infinite development team made Craig meme shirts, Xbox decided to capitalize on the Xbox Series X’s meme status by creating an actual fridge modeled after the Xbox Series X.

While the video for the Xbox Series X fridge giveaway may have been posted months ago, some eagle-eyed fans spotted what could be a secretly placed teaser for the return of a few long-dormant franchises. Detailed in a Reddit post, user IMulero points out that since Xbox secretly revealed its new wireless headset months ago, Microsoft is arguably “playing a game” in which unreleased products are hidden in plain sight. With this in mind, the Reddit user points out there are a few posters in the background of the video for the Xbox Series X fridge. The posters are an eclectic mix, with Microsoft Flight Simulator, Project Gotham Racing 4, and Viva Pinata clearly visible on the back wall.

While Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently out on PC with a console version releasing summer 2021, Project Gotham Racing and Pinata haven’t seen the light of day since their respective entries on the Xbox 360. While both of the latter franchises haven’t had a new game in well over a decade, the same can be said for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which just revealed its UK and Ireland updateProject Gotham Racing acted as Xbox’s flagship racing sim prior to Forza, which has held the torch from the 360 onward. It would be interesting to see PGR revived, but given its similarities to Forza, it seems less than likely.

These Easter eggs have become increasingly commonplace for Microsoft. It was revealed that Xbox head Phil Spencer had an Xbox Series S hiding in plain sight during a stream months before the console was officially announced. The secretive touches everywhere extend to the Series X itself, which features a Halo-themed Easter egg inside of its hardware. While the posters could simply be a remnant of the Xbox warehouse’s history, some fans believe it to be another secret teaser at play.

The theory of the teaser does seem valid, although the two remaining franchises have since faded into obscurity. It should be interesting to see if they get revived, and what new directions or innovations they will forge on modern-day systems.

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are available now.
